Picked up a *sweet* '72 Suburban: questions/parts request inside!
Since I was a day late & a dollar short on CG's killer Suburban combo deal, I had to get back to looking for a 'Burb...I got lucky and stumbled upon an ad on Craigslist..."suirely it's gone", I thought...nope! I told him I'd take it sight unseen, but being as he was 8+ hours away in Dallas, it would be that evening before I got there. Thankfully, I pleasantly surprised with the condition of it, and my kids LOVE IT! Got lots of little stuff to do to it, but 99% of the original stuff is there and decent. Anyway, check it out...

A shot of the engine compartment, the original blue front mat (both rear mats are there and decent also!) & original owner's manual & Protect-o-plate!

Re: Picked up a *sweet* '72 Suburban: questions/parts request inside!
Now, my questions/requests...
* what are "H.D. Bucket Seats"? Are these just standard buckets like in the trucks & blazers? How hard are these to find, so I can get a set redone?? * what is "Camper Mirror-Stain"? * I need 2 more seat hold downs & bolts that go on the front bars of the 2nd/3rd seats...anyone have any for sale? * did the GMC's not get the engine call outs like the Chevrolets? * are those the correct front/rear marker lights? They look like the earlier '68 style to me?? Or just another GMC thing??? * I need an original spare tire cover and an entire jack setup...anyone know where to look? * this thing is a "Super Custom"...is that comparable to a Custom/Deluxe? The thing rides & drives AWESOME! I drove it to a local car show today, and gots lots of looks & comments...

Quote:
lets see... your Q's 1 I think they are more like utility buckets, like in a bread van or dump truck, but this is speculation. 2 Camper mirror, stainless... I *THINK* are like the ones on the one I am getting off CG ... I haven't seen the spid on this one yet, so I can't be certian. The holes on your doors seem to match up though. 3 ---- 4 by call outs, you mean the fender badges? If so... no, they did not. 5. those are the right markers for chevy or GMC 68 - 72. you had to get a CST or Cheyenne/cheyenne super to get the nicer ones. 6.---- 7. it says custom delux on the spid |

Re: Picked up a *sweet* '72 Suburban: questions/parts request inside!
something interesting here... while I am not sure about on the burbs, all the GMC trucks i have seen had the glove box door color the same as the Inst panel... being that this is the correct door, that tells me the inst panel was swapped.
The only thing I can think of that would make this burb an exception to that rule (assuming it is a RULE) is the rear air... the added hole may have dictated the 'generic' inst panel. |

Longhorn: makes sense on the mirrors...I have one side, will need to find another to match I suppose! The bucket seats has me curious as well...how were the buddy buckets listed on the earlier trucks, any idea?
72GMCburban: I had to give $3500 for it...I don't know the market on these rigs, but my gut said it was a *tad* high, but it was only an easy drive away (Dallas), mostly original/in good shape, and the guy's phone was ringin' off the hook! I wish it had the leafs in the rear, and maybe that it was a 3/4 ton, but the thing rides/drives so nice as it is that I'd be hard pressed to change a single thing...!

I'd say it was a good find. I like to see what the market is on these, helps me convince my wife that they are investments LOL
