2/4 drop ride quality
I want to drop my '67 with a drop kit that has the shorter coil springs (2" in front and 4" in back) and I was wondering if anybody has done this and noticed a harsher ride, or will it ride about the same. I'm gonna keep the drums for now so I'm not gonna use the drop spindles in the front. Thanks for your input in advance.

Re: 2/4 drop ride quality
It will ride the same and might handle even better lowered. Mine did!

Re: 2/4 drop ride quality
You will find a difference of opinion at to which method is better, but apparently not about the quality of the ride. My drop is with spindles, but that was done to gain disc brakes. There have been discussions about alignment when using shorter springs, but I don't have a dog in that fight.
I am of the opinion that having good quality springs is one of the most important factors in gaining a good ride and drive. Good springs and good shocks are must-haves.

Re: 2/4 drop ride quality
mine rides much nicer.........guessing the brand new lowering springs and shocks made a huge difference. Also when I bought the truck, I greased ever grease zirk that I could find......stopped all the loud squeeks as well. dont thing the previous owner new how to do that because they were all dry.

Re: 2/4 drop ride quality
I did a 2/4 drop with ECE springs on my LWB. Kinda hard to say, since I rebuilt the rest of my OLD front end at the time. It seems a little stiffer, but much more responsive @ the same time. Recently I have notived that it has gotten a little sloppy.... more body roll when taking corners or making quick lane changes. Gotta get underneith and see whats going on.
I put in small block rated springs in the front, even though I run a big caddy motor. Jason

Re: 2/4 drop ride quality
Chances are your existing springs are worn out, any new springs will improve the feel and ride a good deal.
As stated above you should see better handling as well - go for it Don't forget the adjustable panhard bar for the rear as well as the rear shock relocator kit and new shocks

Re: 2/4 drop ride quality
you really should put new balljoints tyrod end and generally rebuild the front end in the back new bushings in the trailing arms and new shocks with relocaters at the rear as well as swaybars front and rear will all go a long way in resulting in a much better ride quality

Re: 2/4 drop ride quality
If you use spindles to lower the front, the ride will not change "unless" you change the shocks at the same time. If you go with springs, the ride will be firmer, but not harsh "unless" you change the shocks too.
As you can see, it not always one component that changes the ride so much as it is a combination of parts replaced together. Spindles do not change your ride. Lowering springs will only make a mild change and usually for the better. Add too stiff of a shock, or even worse one that's too long and bottoms out will have a very adverse affect on your ride quality. Something you didn't mention is what tires you are going with. Low profile tires have a huge impact on ride quality. Regardless of whether its a 15" or a 22" the lower the profile, the harsher the ride....

Re: 2/4 drop ride quality
thats a real good point about the tires an inch or 2 wider on rims also makes a big difference
