GM licensed gates for '77-'80 now available

We have a great inventory of these now. Very heavy duty GM licensed reproduction gate. Modify to fit '73-'76

I really wished they would have made the 73-76 unit instead or as well.

Thanks for the heads up.

The '81-'87 is different. I want to say that it's simply cosmestic but I would need to go double check

I need to double check- BUT I'm pretty sure it's the trunions. It's been a while since I've had my hands in an '81-'87 but I think '77 was the first year of the quick release (I won't be offended at all if I'm corrected)

AWESOME!!! Great to see the centered GMC raised letter tailgate available. I'm guessing the trend is more resto parts becoming available for 73-87's ?

oddly- there actually used to be a lot more available but most crash parts distributors discontinued them when they were no longer "Contemporary" parts (both the 6' and 8' bed floor, complete beds, etc.)

Re: GM licensed gates for '77-'80 now available

I think the pegs/trunions on the gates are all the same, it is the brackets they slide into that are different (the parts that bolt to the box down below). I do know that the latching locations changed thruought the years, so one will need the proper straps to work with the latching mechanism if changing tailgates. Here is a quick comparison between two tailgates that I have...notice the different latch locations on the top side of the gate.

Latches on the sdie of the bed are different as well as the trunions. My dad has researched these as wee need a tailgate for our 76, the 73-76 are the same except for the trunion.

Are the trunions on the gate itself different, or the trunions that bolt to the bed (that the gate slides into)??

Re: GM licensed gates for '77-'80 now available

I can clearly see the difference in the latch location- which is kind of bizzare because the aftermarket has sold on gate for '73-'80 forever; makes me wonder what people had been doing. I've got a '75 out here in the yard I'll have to look at to see if there are provisions for either latch location

I owned a 76 and a 77 years ago. I believe that the white one is the earlier 73-76 and that the green one is the 76 1/2-80. ...Joe

Re: GM licensed gates for '77-'80 now available

Ours are like the green one. On our truck ('75) it looks like it had the receiver for that welded on guide and that it simply unbolts. So on the '73-'76 you would have to change the latches to use the later model ones with the guide on them (LMC pn#'s 30-1546, 30-1547 so they are readily available)

No, the white one is definately not a 73-76 gate...73-76 gates don't have that decorative reveal around the recessed portion.

Re: GM licensed gates for '77-'80 now available

Hey guys, look here

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=257351

The white one is definately not a 73...as it is different than my '73 gate...the recessed area is completely different.

If we can get a bunch of us to post pics of the gates on our trucks I think we can determine what the differences are between them.

Re: GM licensed gates for '77-'80 now available

I have a question. Do you know if GM is planning to license any more parts in the future such as fenders, doors, hoods, bedsides etc.? I'll bet they'd sell lots of them if they decide to license these parts as well as these new tailgates, especially if they are made from the same gauge steel as original, and the fit and finish is as good. ...Joe
