Question on 67 Custom Suburban 4x4

Local junkyard has a 67 4x4 suburban custom package. Has fancy knobs, but there are different than 68+ ones. Are they different? Anything I should look for that's special? I am for sure getting the manual throttle. Was a cool optioned suburban, 327 3 speed manual and shoulder harnesses!! 327 and shoulder belts gone, though. Anything anybody wants me to look for, let me know!! thanks

yep, 67 only on the control knobs, cigar lighter, ignition switch, arm rests... I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff.

Pretty rare burb...one of 166 if half ton and 120 as 3/4 ton...

Another '67-only feature was the crinkle-black paint on the glovebox door... Vent window locks are different -- more like the '61s. Also the "parking" lights go off when you pull the headlight switch all the way out.
I'm still saving up my nickles and dimes to begin the rebuild project on my '67 K/10 Suburban and 454. Been hoarding it since it went down in '98.

Checked on a price today, $200!!! I think I am gonna get it and take it back to Williston! I have a set of axles from a 72 blazer for it and I can get a 205/TH350(rebuilt) for 200 bucks, too. I think I have another project!! What do y'all think?

The early 67 knobs are ribbed on the sides like a quarter. and I believe they are smaller also. I didnt know about the crinkly paint being 67 only. It`s amazing what you learn on this site.

Just remember when you do get it running, that the rig has a whole different set of handling characteristics, due to its extreme length. [I see you have a lot of shortbeds.] I went from a shortbed stepside to pulling that sub around and got into a scrape backing into some snowbirds' ricer/minivan in a dark parking lot. Since I was nice enough to leave my contact info on a piece of paper under their wiper, they waited until they got back to Minnesota to file their claim for a $400 broken "remote mirror" and paint job. This was 13 years ago when you could've painted the whole car for 4 bills.
For my '67, I have a Dana 44 [3.73] off a '77 K/5 to replace the stock corp 10-bolt front end. The open-knuckle axle will allow power steering and power disc brakes. "White Fang" was real hard to stop with a big block and drum brakes. More like "Select Alternate Target".

FYI,stock the 67-72s had a Dana 44 front,closed knuckle axles before 70 and open after that.If it was going to be restored,I'd say leave the closed knuckle in,but if you were ever thinking of driving it,a upgrade to discs might be in order..And also,you could get power steering on closed knuckle axle trucks,and also power brakes on them too,but they were drum brakes.

Well I don't know who made the earlier front axles... You are probably right. As for the '67 ['61-'67 or '65-'67 or '68 ?] half-ton 4WD; power "assist" steering was optioned -- basically a manual gearbox with hydraulic slave cylinders to push/pull the pittman arm -- but the later Saginaw ['69-on] P/S gearbox does not work on a '67 K/10 frame. BTDT, found out the hard way about that. Since I have to put on the later Dana 44, disc brakes are the way to go. Trying to find the front-only K-model drums was expensive 13 years ago, would'nt want to try it now. Vintage Corvettes used the slave cylinder system too, so parts are available, but at Corvette prices.

pwer steering on a 67 and 68 isnt hard to get you just have to use a spacer or heat the frame and take a hammer to it to make the indent for the power steering box. there are a few kits out there to do it too.

Power steering for a 67 4x4 is not an easy one to do without changing the front axel......

Yeah, the '67 4x4 is strange. Been there done that. Had to change it back to manual steering and then it never turned good after that, since the mechanics at the shop had cut and short-spliced the original draglink [one piece] to fit the P/S gearbox. Tried spacers -- 3/4" hexnuts welded to washers on the frame -- the system would snap 1/2" grade 8 bolts and threw off my leafspring/axle connection. To make a lefthand U-Turn, I'd have to (illegally) start from the center lane to swing 180* into the right lane on the other side. Went back to manual, but it was never the same.
I think running gear-wise, the '67 was closer to the '61-'66 K series.

67 is the same as my 68 no diffrenc at all. lots of us have changed to power with out having trouble.
