Home Made Flip Kit

Hey guys, I was wondering if instead of buying a DJM/Belltech flip I could make my own with just with some blocks and u bolts? I would just flip the axle and then bolt the u bolts upside down around it. Would this work? Are there any tabs or anything on the axle that would prevent me from doing this?

I tried to do the same thing and just don't have all the materials needed. It is a lot easier to buy it.

I understand that money don't grow on trees.

If you attempt this, remember that the axle has to be located 1 in. back.

When the axle is lowered that amount, it shifts the rear-end forward. That by itself isn't a big deal, but it also shifts the driveshaft forward into the trans further than ideal. All it takes is one good whack & the trans is hurt....

If they're part of the kit it's a no brainer. If you have to purchase them separate, they're worth it if you plan on using off the shelf shocks. If you're going to use custom 'drop-shocks', you could prob skip using them.

Re: Home Made Flip Kit

If you can weld, get some new spring perches, drill a new hole however far away it needs to be for the pin, and weld them to the bottom of the tubes. Cheap and easy.

Re: Home Made Flip Kit

well the kit comes with them but i would still use nitro shocks. Would I have a better ride with or without the extenders?

There's no right or wrong answer here.

You need to know what length shock that's required for your combination of parts ride height. Compare that to the compressed & extended lengths of the 'nitro' shocks. You want the shock to be as close to its center of travel as possible when sitting still @ ride height. If it's close, you won't need extenders. If the shock is too compressed, the extenders gain some of the travel back.
