'59 / '60 Impala dash for a 59
A buddy has a nice 60 Impala dash he'll sell me for a reasonable $. Anyone who has any experience on transplanting this dash into a 55-59 please let me know. I love the look of this dash, very classic, and it looks like a (close) fit.
Thanks. Paul http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=229882 |

55-
yea, I agree that a different dash (especially the Impala) in the 59 would be pretty friggin' sweet. This particular dash is black and is Nomad trim - he says he has the original wheel and column all in nice shape, and will sell that as well. Hmmmm! Got a deal on this 59 impala dash -$200 w/ all the chrome panels for underneath. The column is original but the wheel is a 61/62 impala wheel. I'm thinking about grafting this thing into my 59.......anybody done it? Please chime in if you have any info for this type of install. Thanks!

Re: '59 / '60 Impala dash for a 59
I haven't done it, but I've seen pics of it done. Man that was one sweet deal. I'd like to find one for my truck. I tried to find one a while back and had no luck. I believe you can take the dash out from the posts and put it in that way. I believe the radius of the two are the same. Good luck with the project.

Don't know anyone that has install one in these old truck, but I have to say rge the 59 to 60 impala was one of the coolest dash that GM ever made. My mom has a 60 nomad wagon with that dash and it was cool to me back then too. I do know some that installed in a 67 chevy truck, they has to ad a few inches to the center of the dash.

The current edition of Truck Builder magazine has a '58 with a '59 Impala dash. He used the Impala rear seat emblem so it looks like the '59's rear seat.

Re: '59 / '60 Impala dash for a 59
Thanks, I'll check that out. It looks like I'll have to trim about 6-7 inches from the forward edge (using the stock Apache inside windshield trim as a rough template. This will totally eliminate the speaker grill portion of the dash as that sits adjacent to the front edge. Then remove about 2.5 inches from each end and it should be close to fitting up. I'm thinking of putting this off for a while because I wanted to be on the road by spring but a buddy of mine is trying to get me to do it now while the truck is apart. Still undecided.

Re: '59 / '60 Impala dash for a 59
If I ever find a good deal on a complete one AND get more confident in my fab & welding abilities I'd definitely do the '55 Belair dash. I LOVE those things. Plus it makes a lot more sense to have the glove box in the center, within reach

Both look great in these trucks. If a 59 were to become available I'd be thinking real hard on doing it.

I like that look! So is this quite a chore to install?

Re: '59 / '60 Impala dash for a 59
Denee, Read ChuckDriver's thread I posted in post #11 above. It'll tell you all you need to know about how easy/hard it is, depending of course on your level of fabrication skill.

Re: '59 / '60 Impala dash for a 59
Thanks for posting this- I have a '59 dash at home waiting for my '56.
Instead of taking the material out of the center or off of the sides, I may cover over the pass side cove to give it an asymmetrical look. |

Re: '59 / '60 Impala dash for a 59
Thanks Dan for mentioning my dash install, I am very pleased how it turned out! I had never done anything that involved before and it took me longer to do than it might take a pro, but it was well worth the effort.
