84 with a Dropmember

Here's a couple pics of an 84 we're installing a Dropmember in... also will be running a bolt-in rear kit that we will be offering soon (has the bolt-in notch installed already).

That looks nice!

Question, what does your basic 73-87 front kit go for? Any idea on what the rear kit might go for?

Re: 84 with a Dropmember

Nathan thanks for dropping in on the 73-87 forum. For those of you that don't visit the suspension forum, Nathan Porter (Poreterbuilt) is a regular there. If you spend some time looking at his posts you will see some amazing quality work.

I don't think so on Yeller...but perhaps something else?

Ken, can you use these kits stand alone (no drop spindles/springs/air bags), and if so, what is the drop? I am thinking of doing this in stages...IF I do something like this. I know you don't make these, but you might know about them.

Re: 84 with a Dropmember

Jeff, I don't know much about the rear kit since it is new. The front kit is designed to get you on the ground. I think you can use the stock spindles, but bags are part of the package.

I'm sure Nathan will drop in with more details.

The Dropmember is designed to be used with air bags, and converts the steering to rack and pinion. You can maintain your factory control arms, spindles, and brakes. If you're not looking to have an "adjustable air suspension" you can run the air bag at a static height by using a schrader valve. That way you can gain the advantage of a better ride quality, but not have to fork out thousands for an air management system. As for the "drop" ... the truck dropped a total of 9" up front. This was achieved by using the Dropmember, a 2.5" drop spindle, and a set of ART arms. If you kept your factory arms and spindles it would keep it closer to 5" or 6"... this can vary a little depending on tire size. (The original height measurement was taken without the drivetrain in place... that could've skewed the original height measurement by a couple inches).

The front kit runs $1425 and does not include any steering, bags, control arms, spindles, or brakes. Supporting members get a discount.

On the rear... still finishing it up. Hopefully I will have it completed by the first of next month and be able to attach a price to it.

Re: 84 with a Dropmember

Here's a few more pics of the rear nocth and install (kkep in mind these pics do not include all pieces of the rear kit). There will also be tubular crossmember's that bolt-in between the notches to stiffen the chassis and add a little flavor!

This shows the simplicity of the design... use the supplied templates and existing frame holes to mark where the frame needs to be cut and where the new holes need to be drilled. Drill the holes, cut the frame, and slip the notch over the rails! Bolt-it up and there you have it.

Re: 84 with a Dropmember

The Dropmember is a nice piece (like everyone says).
Thanks for showcasing it here.

I've followed your thread (http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=201898) in the Suspension forum as well as some of the other's Dropmember threads. Most of the information provided centers around the 67-72 crowd. If I may, would you field a few questions about the Dropmember in the 73-87 trucks?

1) I understand that the Dropmember is designed with the use of the Strong Arms LCA, although it will also work with the stock LCA with no modifications necessary. Is it correct to assume that the air bag mounting plates are parallel to each other at ride height? Is this also the case if one uses the stock LCA with, say, a plate (or cup) for the lower air mount? What would the distance between the two parallel mounting surfaces be? I'm wondering if a 224C (instead of a RE7) would maintain the parallel mounting surfaces of the bag's ride height at ~5 1/4".
2) Although the Dropmember relocates the engine a ‘couple of inches’ forward and upward, no modifications are needed to the firewall and tunnel for clearance. Would this be accurate for a SBC as well as a Gen III?
3) Is it possible to retain the geometry of the R&P steering, if the stock outer tie rod ends are shortened and re-threaded? You mentioned in your thread, that both the outer tie rod ends and the R&P, had to be shortened. I'm wondering for these trucks, if only the outer tie rod ends can be shortened without shortening the R&P.

BTW, you mentioned that the tracking of the Dropmember setup is narrower where the rotor face to rotor face width on the regular Dropmember is 60". From my measurements, the stock width is ~ 61 5/8” from outer surface of the rotors.

Finally, one last request:

At ride height, do you know how high the front fender lip is from the ground on the 84? What is the size of the front wheels, drop spindles and front bags?

Any information you may provide is appreciated.

Thank you.
