Alloy Rads: Actual Weight Saved

My old rad was looking too tired to run 11's so I stepped up to an alloy unit.
It's an AFCO direct bolt in unit, very good quality, my only comment was that the bottom outlet is too long and angled upwards. I had to cut and shut the hose to make it fit. Everything else was a direct bolt in, it uses the standard mounts and rubbers.

I got mine for $345.99 on e-bay.
The core is the same dimensions as a SBC copper rad.

So how much weight does it save?
The AFCO weighs 15.5lb when empty.
Full the AFCO is 27.5lb.
My old rad for a SBC weighs 21.5lb empty.
Full it weighs 31.75lb.
As you can see the Alloy rad holds more water.

So a net saving of 4.25lb.

Every little helps, but unless your rad is shot like mine the money could be spent better on something else.

since we are on the radiator subjuct and weight issue.. is anyone running alcohol and how small of radiator is posible...

I'm switching to alky this year. I bought a single row 20"x29" baby radiator. The top hose is 12AN. We'll see how it works in a few weeks.

I had a custom two pass(like a vw scirocco) aluminum radiator made to my specs and its the bomb! I fill my radiator at the intake so all my radiator has is two threaded bungs and a drain. The workmanship is awesome and I think I could drive my truck to the beach (three hours away) If I had an extra grand for fuel!

This is where I had mine made and they were the Bomb. it only took two weeks and it was less than 300 to my door.

I haven't weighed it but its very light. I had a freind help me with the shroud but they will sell you a fan and shroud also!
