ColordoK5 Introduction
Here is my 1971 K5 bought it in 05 pretty much the way it sits until the motor finally blew up on me. Pulled the Motor last week and decided this would be a good time to paint the engine compartment. Then I decided to get some stuff powder coated so I took out the interior to powder coat the seat brackets, since I have everything out already might be a good time to paint the tub. Let me know what you guys think.

I think it looks sweet!!! I hope you mean to paint the inside, the outside looks great. Give us some specs.... Lift? tire size? engine? Post some pics as ya put it back together. We all drool over build pics, lol.. I do anyway

I blame it on this board. gave me alot of ideas and examples. I am going to paint the engine compartment same as exterior and the inside tub black. it is all stock height with later model15x8 Rally wheels on 32x12.50 BFG AT's. Still trying to decide what motor to go with too many options out there. i am leaning towards a 350/330hp from GMPP. anybody have that motor or suggestions? here is a few more pics

Thanks for the comments i like the color a lot 2. The PO did a good job picking it out. The paint is ok but definitly not show quality. I use this Blazer to go hunting and fishing so it has some scratches but nothing that will not buff out. I also have a Tach kit i need to put in and a tilt column that needs to be re-built.

Nice Blazer, I like the color as well. I couldn't tell from the pics, do you still have the factory tow hooks that are on the option sheet? They are pretty hard to come by.

The color i was told is gunmetal blue from an early 90's Lexus. I am looking for the paint codes later this week.
I know a lot people think i am crazy taking this thing hunting and fishing but i think why have a 4x4 if you never get to use it? I still have the og tow hooks here is a pic that shows them. |

Life is short--do it like you want--drive it like you want--. I have a high output reworked 350 in my blazer. Due to the gear ratio--you never really get to take advantage of the power--so you just suck up more gas 12-13mpg. I would consider the base model GM crate 350. Done that before and it is a good buy for the price and the warranty. Huck

hehehe Just messin Stevo I would get the crate engine for that hunting rig. Or if you have a good engine guy that can balance you a well built 350, bump up the compression a bit and upgrade to MPFI then pack your icecooler and hit the hills Good Luck! Burt

I am really confused on what to do for my motor? I picked up the GMPP 2008 catalog and there are a lot of options but i think i am starting to lean towards the 350/290hp. For the price it is hard to beat. Plus i can also add stuff later. I would love to have a BB but with gas prices i would never get to use it

Gas prices..comon that will allways be an issue, plus you slap on a good MultiPoint Fuel Injection and get 15mpg easy 350 or 454 desn't matter..The only reason a 454 gets worse gas millage is cuz it is alot more fun to THROTTLE OUT hehheee
Speaking of F-gasprices I paid 3.99 for diesel this morning..75bucks for 17gal

That's true about gas prices. They are a lot of fun!! Maybe on the next go around? Can you recommend a good MPFI? I need to research on this subject a lot more.

I run the Edlebrock MPFI, throttel response is AWESOME.
Some say the Holley Comander 950 is the way to go. Or just get a newer LS1 or LS6 engine like RyanB does over at PacificFab here in Cali.

The ram jet 350 would be awesome, but you can find cooler, more programmable solutions for similar $. Just depends on what you want. I'd like an LS1/LS6 with a FAST or Motec setup...
or with the stock computer and hp tuners... http://www.hptuners.com/ But the ram jet would be just fine...

I realy don't know much about the ramjet Heck I don't know much about FI also.
I do know there are two types of FI: Batch Fire = squirts fuel to more than one cylinder at a time, in a batch. Sequential Fire = squirts fuel only to the cylinder that is going to fire (better fuel economy & power) the best type of FI.
