Found My 55 cab today

Having had my nose to the ground looking and asking around for a 55-59 cab I finally came across one today. The guy I talked to about it just got back from borrowing to get a load of water. Yes I said a load of water. It is a 6400 series flatbed. He put one of his water tanks on the back to take to his house in the sticks. He was asking me about where to find a 3/4 ton Ford or Dodge and I said I hadn't been looking but was looking for the old CHevy. It has a small block and 4 speed with 2 speed rear axle. I don't really want all that but just the cab. Somewhere near 700 will buy it. It is licensed and titled. He said that it had the V shaped speedo so I assume it is the later 55. I gotta see it in person and am very excited just to have found it. I will keep you in touch with a pic when I lay eyes on it. David

Sounds like a decent price. Just so you know the hood, fenders and grill are bigger on the trucks over 1 ton.

Aren't the cabs pretty much the same except an extra floor brace under seat? Same doors? I am going to go see it this weekend. I have a friend that will let me park it at his house so I can take the cab and leave the rest for him and we share the cost. Like this one. This not it but was listed as a 6400.

You're right. Cab and doors are basicly the same. Just wanted to be sure you knew the sheet metal ahead of the firewall was different. I know of more than one person who bought front end metal off a big truck, only to learn it was too big for their pickup.

cabs are completely different form the 1/2 tons, old man says so and hes the king of any chevy 55-72, hell owns almost every one of them haha, 17 55-59 panels and subrubans, too many trucks to count, and about 100 more cars lol.

Re: Found My 55 cab today

I used a cab from a 59 firetruck on mine, worked fine. The cab had an extra brace sticking out just in front of the doors on the inside of the cab.

My dad has a 59 fuel truck sitting in the yard, and it also has the same extra brace.

Truck cabs will work, not COE or LCF cabs.
