What will it take?
A friend has an 86 truck with a 350 and 350c tranny in it. His son has a 95 firebird that was hit by a train, but the tranny is okay. What does he need to make the tranny work in his truck? It's a 4l60e tranny, so do they make a stand alone controller for the tranny?

Re: What will it take?
I don't know about a 95 but on older models the bell housing bolts were in different locations. might be able to make an adapter plate for it. Then the tail shaft splines are probably different. Check the U-joint, you may be able to put that slip joint on the truck u joint. after that you are down to either vac. or electrical connections. That depends on what transmission is in the Pontiac.

Re: What will it take?
the tail shaft may be different too the trucks typically came with a long tail which is about 9 inches and the cars came with a short tail which is closer to 6 inches...
not only is the bell housing bolts different the pontiac may have a different shape kinda like the GMC as opposed to the chevy shape

Re: What will it take?
The firebird had an LT1 in it, which is a Chevy motor.

Re: What will it take?
If it is a chevy motor and has the chevy bell housing, then you just have the rest of the list. being a 95 is it the 4l60e transmission? If so then you will have to have some type of computer control for it.

Re: What will it take?
That's pretty much the question, is there a stand alone control for the tranny?

Yes there is but they are not cheap. I'm thinking around $1000. (not sure and I can't find the link I had) Along with that you will need another module to connect the speed sensor to the cable drive dash. Also not cheap.

Re: What will it take?
Yeah that's what I figured. He needs to go ahead and get the LT1/tranny combo together and put it in his truck.

Re: What will it take?
I was headed down that road at one time and he will need to get the harness reworked, the pcm reprogrammed (tire height, vats delete, etc.) and get himself a fuel injection tank. It will cost a little more than the stand alone trans controller option but he would have a mated tpi engine and overdrive trans in the end.
