West Coast Mirrors - Opinions

My thinking at the moment is to maybe put West Coast mirrors on my '65 FS LB. I'm going back and forth on this... the truck is going back together cosmetically stock except for engine, transmission, seat and wheels. Any comments on this? I'd hate to drill the holes and decide I didn't like them, or drill the holes for the passenger side small round mirror and decide I'd rather have the West Coast mirrors. Decision, decisions...

You know, on the right truck (like the 2nd post) those mirrors look pretty nice.

I have the round stockers and am going to get the rectangle stockers to replace them soon, but the california's look pretty good.

Here is what my truck will look like when done, including the same wheels. The only difference will be it will be a C-10 instead of a C-20. I'm either going to to go with these same mirrors or the West Coast style... one of those big decisions that shouldn't require this much thought.

I like the square mirrors you have on there now, they look good with the overall style on the truck. I'm keeping mine but I think we are going for two diffrent looks

The mirrors you show are west coast juniors, usually 5x10" head. There weren't many on the 60's trucks around here, due to the cost. They are a good, solid mirror.

The stock mirror arm has a tendency to vibrate, especially with the larger head. If you go this route, make sure the door panel is reinforced.

What I would recommend you do is to mock up a junior mirror. It doesn't have to be fancy. Use what you have for the frame, wire, wood strips, cardboard and lots of the handyman's secret weapon. Then sit in your truck and look around. One thing you will find is a huge blind spot caused by the mirror head. Is it something you can live with?

I drove trucks for years that had the full size west coast mirrors. When I switched trucks it took me a while to find a mirror setting that gave me the best combination of rear vision and the ability to see around the mirror, especially at cross-streets.

That was such a clean truck - if it hadn't been so far away I would have bought it!

I was in the same boat, I was trying to decide to go with this color or the baby blue original color. Red is also an option. It's actually not my truck, it's one I've found online. He said it was a modern stock Chevy color. I'm going with a 1990 Chrysler color called Medium Tundra Metallic, it's close to the same color as this truck.

Here is a factory below eye line mirror set up that eliminated the blind spots that some found to be a problem on the west coast mirrors.

That color looks like a GM color called light bronze mist. BMW has a color- I don't know the actual name (it would be in German anyway...) but it is code 472. It is just like that color only cleaner and brighter. I was going to go with it, but opted for a Ford charcoal instead.

Oh, and those mirrors are huge!
