My Oklahoma adventure...

My family and I went out to OK for vacation the last week of May/first week of June. While there, I had the opportunity to meet 2 great fellow board members, Joe231 & Scotts62, and see there projects. It was nice meeting you guys, swapping some knowledge and hanging out for a while. Oh, and thanks Joe for bringing up the rear mount kit and thank you Scott for the great deal on it.

We did a lot of riding around while there and I saw numerous 60-66 trucks sitting around but didn't get any pics of them. The 4 door crew cab that Joe posted about was one that I saw that I thought was cool . Another one that I saw while there was a 62 CC that had a large horse trailer for a bed. It was pretty neat and I would have liked to get pics of it but it was a ways off the main road and the kids were getting restless so I didn't take the time.

I also wound up buying a '64 Custom Cab LWB and dragging it home with me.The funny thing about the '64 is that it was sitting two blocks from where my Aunt lives in Warwick. For those of you that don't know, the population of Warwick is probably about 50(if that). Anyway, when I agreed to purchase the truck the guy produced the original bill of sale and the original OK title for it. Unfortunately, the motor, tranny, aluminum grill and chrome front bumper was gone. The guy had used some of the parts on his 64 short fleet but he sold me the rest for a good price [$275(I thought it was a good deal anyway)].

I tow barred the truck home which went really well until I got about 40 miles from home. When we started out from a red light, we heard a slight popping noise and it went away. I pulled over in a parking lot to see what the problem was and everything appeared fine so we headed on out for home. No more real issues until we got about 3 mile from the house. I had to stop at a red light and when I went to ease forward before the light turned green, the Suburban wouldn't move. I got out to see what it was and the rearend had locked up. My Dad was a little concerned about it and I got back in and told everyone to hold on, we were going home. I gave the Suburban a little extra throttle and the rig began moving forward with the 64s rear tires sliding. There was a "POP" and it was rolling again. I ran numerous stop signs on the back roads to where I live to try to keep it from locking back up. When I was turning into the drive at my parents' house, the rearend locked down on me. I drug it out of te way and unhooked it. Talk about lucky! It would have been terrible if that thing would have locked down on the Interstate. I guess I can't be too upset that a 44 year old rearend locked up after sitting for several years and then doing 800+ miles at @ 70 mph.
Anyway, here are some pics that I took.
The 1st is of the 64 hooked up to the Sub just before hitting the highway.

The 2nd is right after I mounted the tow bar to the front bumper.

The pic of the Gold door was a $5 yard sale find. We were headed back to Warwick from the city on a back road, saw the door in the front yard at a house having a yard sale, stopped, asked about it, gave 'em 5 bucks and hit the road again.

The pics of the Suburban were taken at the Mopar show on Reno at the park. I didn't see the owner but it was a sweet lookin ride and I just had to take a coupla pics of it.

Thanks for the comments guys. The door is in excellent shape. There is only a couple of tiny pinholes in the inner bottom. When they told me the price on the door, I asked if they had any other parts from the truck but unfortunately that was all they had. It was kinda funny how we ran across it. We had been to the Mopar show on El Reno and we just decided to go back through Jones to see different scenery. I just happened to spot the door leaned against a trailer in the front yard just before we got to downtown Jones. Turned around and got out and the guy had a trailer full of wheels & tires that the door was leaned up against. I saw a few 6 lug rallys but didn't have any way to get them back to my Aunts so I didn't even ask about them. I was still tickled about the score on the door though.

I'm sure I could find you some but they would probably be rotten from the windows down. Most everything I find down here is like that.

Cool story...........I always wonder the condition of the rear-ends in my trucks; I had one go out once. I guess the brite side is that you know its gonna work right when you get it going! Of course theres the alternator, water pump, fuel pump,.............

It was on Reno Ave. at Joe Barnes Park in Midwest City. I don't recall the cross street, but it was on a corner. Sorry for the confusion.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately according to your comment) I don't know where the town of El Reno is.

Slmed92- Yea, I really liked that sub. That was the type that I had in mine when my wife told me she wanted a Suburban. As you can see, she didn't like my idea so we wound up with the black one. Oh well, you win some and lose alot more.

Yea, Scott, everything else worked out great. As of right now I am not exactly sure what I am gonna do with my "drug" truck. It may wind up with a motor of some sort just to get it moving, but from there ???? It kinda sucks because I bought it for parts but I'm not sure I have the heart to tear it apart. When the guy gave me the title and the original bill of sale, it just hurt me. The reason it bothered me so much is because in the state of Alabama anything older than 1974 does not require a Title. This is only the 2nd old vehicle that I have purchased with a title(the other being the Oklahoma '66) and the only one with an original title from the time of being purchased new. So it's fate is really up in the air. The old gears just keep churnin' out more ideas/reasons to try to at least get it street legal. For example, I just finished stripping out an old POS '71 today so I have a complete 5 lug suspension with no home right now. But before I do anything with it, I have to get the wiring lined out in the 66 longbed so I will have a truck to use again.

ya thats kinda a toss up huh... do you have another truck you could donate to the new one to get it on the road since the title situation...? I see what you are saying though.

I have numerous parts laying around. I'm sure I could scrounge together enough stuff to put it together, it just wouldn't look very good for the time being. I don't know what to do with it yet though, I'll just have to see what life brings my way.
