Re: How to install the vent window weatherstrip?

You have got your work cut out for this one.

You need to remove the vent window assembly from the doors then you can remove the vent windows and replace the rubbers.

Once the old rubber is out soak the new rubber in hot water to soften it and use plenty of graphite grease and ease it into the track.

Re: How to install the vent window weatherstrip?

i went through the same problem disassembling the vent window...and i found out i bought the wrong weatherstrip (i needed a 2 piece seal when i bought a 1 piece instead)...first i took the vent window out of the door and started drilling out the rivets (2 on top and 2 on bottom and 2 on bracket that allows window to swing out)...then take the nut off the spring rod, from there on just install weatherstrip and buy new rivets...i should've soaked my seals in hot water but i rushed the project instead...now i have to listen to the air whistle in the seal again...damnit!

Re: How to install the vent window weatherstrip?

Im thinking about getting rid of the vent windows and going with a one-piece window kit...how hard could it be?

Re: How to install the vent window weatherstrip?

I heard the where a P.I.T.A. to install. do a search there are a few people that have done them. I know that 7T7 has them in his truck. I would talk to him he would probably have more insight on the subject.

Re: How to install the vent window weatherstrip?

Putting in the 73-87 One piece kit is not that hard. The biggest thing is drilling the new holes. 7T7 got his from me, so he would be a good place to get an unbiased opinion.
