Help with steering column for my 56 3100

Hi All,

A little while ago I purchased a late 60's steering column for my 56. It cam out of a chevy van with an automatic tranny. The question or problem is how do I remove the shifter arm at the bottom of the column so I can install the column in the floor? I do plan to reuse it so I don't want to chop it off but instead remove and reattahc.

Thanks,
Sam

No I didn't but someone tried to do it at one time with a steal plate. I think for some reason they tried to shift the column to the left so they redrilled the hole and put a large plate over it.
