Re: how to get gas out of tank
When I bought the '78 van that I took the motor out of for my truck I opened the gas cap and pulled the supply line at the fuel pump up front, when I did that the suction from the gas that was in between the pump and the tank sucked the rest of the gas out of the tank.

Re: how to get gas out of tank
I've done the same thing using a universal electric fuel pump and one of the cheap siphon pumps from harbor fright. just disconect the line from the mechanical fuel pump and attach flexable line to the hardline. the electric took about 15 mins to drain the tank from my blazer (25 gal tank)

Re: how to get gas out of tank
I went the redneck way and put a CLEAR hose down into the tank. Suck on it (not when anyone else is around ) just enough to get passed the high point. Don't suck till u get gas, it doesn't taste to good I hear. Once you get passed the high point, drop the tube into a can and physics will do the rest.

Re: how to get gas out of tank
Take that long hose and cut a slit in it about 6 in from the end. The slit should be angled and across the hose. Angle it so that you can insert a compressed air blower attachment nozzle into the flow path pointing towards the exit end. Put an airhose fitting or some type of hollow metal fitting on the other end of the hose. When you hear the metal hit the bottom of the tank, you have enough hose in the tank. Fire up the compressed air through the slit and you siphon will be primed and flowing in about a second (or less).

Re: how to get gas out of tank
Isn't it funny that normally we are happy about getting a free vehicle?
But now days its the gas in the tank of that free vehicle is the most valuable part |

Re: how to get gas out of tank
Check the column in that van. If it is a tilt and it has the key on the dash you might be able to sell it to one of the 67-72 guys that wants to do a column conversion. Also, if it has intermittent wipers on the dash you may be able to sell that as well. The mounting tabs are different than our trucks but I think the delay wiring is the same.

Re: how to get gas out of tank
Yo! stump!
Once you get the hang of it, it's easy and no mouth full of fuel! I siphon all the time,...had to remove the remaining fuel from three different tanks with my present project,...and I do it quite often to fill the lawnmower from one of the cars. CLEAR hose, and stop sucking once you've got the flow visible. Gravity does the rest. Geeze, check out my free vehicle on my FRANKENTRUCK post! And my leftovers are worth $100/ton when I'm done!
