Back into the 73087 club
Hey all, I am picking up a truck this weekend or the next to use as a daily driver for a while, it is a 1982 Silverado C/10, with a 6.2 Diesel and a TH700R4.
The R4 has been rebuilt as has the engine, I am shelling out 1100.00 so I think it is a pretty good deal, needs a steering box and some work on the front brakes. Nothing too terrible, I am going to stuff new rotors and pads on it and it should be good to go. This being my first 6.2 I was wondering if you all know any perticulars for the engine, I know not to even dream about towing anything with it, and that as a non turbo motor it is going to do 0-60 some time today, but it will get like 22 mpg. The truck currently has a pretty low geared rear end, either a 4.10 or a 4.56, and it is a 1 wheel wonder. I am figuring on swapping out the rear to a 5 lug 12 bolt posi, with 3.42's for fuel economy, cleaning it up good and driving it as a daily driver so I can stop driving my 9.5 mpg blazer. This will be the 6th of the 73-87 bodystyle that I have owned so I am pretty familiar with the chasis and body, and what a pos the steering column and 700R4 can be. not too sure what I need to know about the Diesel though. Any input would be greatly appriciated, I should have pics to post this weekend or the next.

Re: Back into the 73087 club
If it has a rebuilt engine and trans there's no reason to be afraid of towing anything with it that a gas powered halfton couldn't tow. good Luck.

Re: Back into the 73087 club
Thanks, and pics will be this weekend or next, I am going to do a little mini build on it, just clean it up and tune it up over the next few weeks, going to start driving it right away to find out what the kinks are, doesn't seem like it needs a whole lot to me right now. I think it is going to be a good truck.

Re: Back into the 73087 club
I figure that is about right, although for the towing chores really I have a C/30 with a 454 and a NV4500, me thinks it can handle the towing chores. This truck is going to be more of a beater "shop truck" and if it treats me good, I will really fix it up some day.

Re: Back into the 73087 club
Yeah, it is a pretty solid deal I think. It is a running driving truck with a current inspection and set of plates, hell the inspection is only a couple of months old. And it has new tires on the front. Needs a windshield too, and surprise surprise but the AC pump has gone AWOL, but it should get the job done for me.
