Just bought bag setup, need info!!

Hey guys,

I've been researching the bag setup and lowering FAQs and previous posts, but I wasn't able to find out some specifics.

I have a '71 LWB that I just bought a bag setup for. This includes bags, mounting hardware, lines, compressor, tank, valves, switches, etc. My question is do I need 2.5" drop spindles with the bag setup to get a 4/6" drop? My truck is 4-corner coil setup right now (1/2 ton). I don't plan on a C-notch right now. And also, what type of drop shocks do I need? Any links/info would be great. Thanks, oh yeah, if you couldn't tell...i'm totally new to the bag world.

You don't "need" the dropped spindle, but you will "want" it. If you don't do them now, you will be right back under there dooing them later.

okay, so dropped spindles and dropped shocks are needed just like with a spring setup? That's what I know so far.

pissonNOS, did you c-notch to go lower than 6"? I'm not looking to drag the frame so I'm leaning towards not notching the frame. Anyone have suggestions on good gas shocks that will work well with this setup?

Thanks so far the, as usual, great info!

Definitely put in a c notch atleast. It will make a world of difference. I went w/o one for a while and it was miserable always hitting the bumpstop, but I like mine lower than most people do...

Do vendors make them to actually follow the contour of the frame?

i dont know if they make them to flow with the frame, but this was WAAAYY OFF> NONE of the bolts lined up, i had to heat up the notch and bend the rear to touch the rear of the frame... It was crap... IM not the only one with this complaint.

Re: Just bought bag setup, need info!!

Also another thing to consider is I've got Hedman longtube headers that I don't want to drag. I've measured and can at least drop the front 4" and still have a few inches to go. I've got Longtubes on my Corvette and have about two inches and don't have problems scraping. But any lower and I probably will be showering the pavement on dips.

So, I really can't slam the truck, nor do I want to. I'm going for the old school, keep the chrome, keep the white top, loud, high-horsepower dropped (level, no rake) look. So if you guys still think I need to C-notch then I will definitely think about it, as I thought I didn't need to.

Oh yeah, your guy's dropped rides are impressive. No matter the stance, these trucks look awesome with the fender gap taken away!

My rear was lowered 5 or 6 inches i think and it would hit on bumps.. The rear would. I would do the notch just to have that extra clearance you need... If the frame is apart its super easy to do...

Re: Just bought bag setup, need info!!

It doesn't take much to pull the bed. While the bed if off doing a C-notch and routing everything is much easier. Even if you don't want to go really low the notch will offer more travel with out bottoming out.

Again, you don't "need" the C-notch, but you will "want" it. If you don't do it now, you will be right back under there doing it later.

Did I just quote myself?...

I had my front control arms lay on the ground and my hooker long tubes were definitely in the ground hard. I think that with 4 inch drop you should be all good.

im a long ways from laying frame with just a c notch as thes guys have already said its not a necessity but its definetely appreciated when i just had drop spindles up front an no notch i had a very ugly rake to the truck, I also have long tube headers and i have to be carefiul where i airout or they do hit the ground

Re: Just bought bag setup, need info!!

So I'm gathering with a 4" drop, If I want a level ride while driving the truck, a C-notch would be a good idea.

As always each project I start for the truck gets more involved and complicated than originally thought. Though, I think the drop will look good. Here is a pic of the truck at its current height.

Looks like a clean truck. With a cnotch it will definitely be worth it once your done. Like people said earlier, it does make it raked at ride height without it and it gets annoying. C notches aren't hard to do, so I wouldn't worry bout it.
