I just thought this was too cool......
So I thought I'd share with you guys. I'm into building custom models and I'd love to know how he wired up the LEDs on this.

Nice, that would be great to scare the beans out of a chihuahua.
I have not seen a 1/16 C-10. Where are they available?

Re: I just thought this was too cool......
I'm not exactly sure where you could find one at Rogue. I have found many plastic and dicast models but I have never come accross an RC like that. I'm on the hunt now though.

Ok, I want a border patrol truck now. Of course I don't need 150 different flashing patterns, but the truck looked cool none the less.

That is slick... anyone have any clue how you would hook up LEDs like that? Or even just for headlights and taillights?

Re: I just thought this was too cool......
I worked on a 1/16th scale 69 Camaro and buried myself in too many details!!! .....so, its not quite finished. In the search for stuff, at Radio Shack I came across small little electronics projects and one was "blinky lights". It was a small board with a few components to make leds blink. You can change the rate by changing the components. I was going to lite up the console and the running lites in my model.
Anyway, I believe this how this was done; probably a couple of micro switches to change between different circuits. You can get tiny batteries for this as well.

Re: I just thought this was too cool......
I've done it before on my 1/10 scale rc cars. I used info from here: http://www.swami-rc.com/lighting.htm
I used a 9 volt battery and got all the parts at radio shack, but you can order them from different places online. |

Re: I just thought this was too cool......
Thanx originalJD.......just spent about an hour searching for these things! The link posted on here to JRP or whatever will not allow you to get one. I had to go to Maisto toys and find a place that had them...they also had a really *****en 1/12 scale Impala.
I think I was just inspired to do some modeling again.

LOL! Yeah, I spent some time lookin also. I accidently deleted all the links I saved so I gave up. What I was most interested in is how to wire up the LEDs. I know a guy who is pretty good at it so I'm gonna have him show me. As for where to find these trucks in either plastic, diecast, or RC. I have found that most hobby model manufacture names carry them. the problem is that they are not as common as others. It just takes some time searching. Most likely you will have to order one online.

Re: I just thought this was too cool......
Hey dude.......I finally found them on a link off Miasto's website. One place out of ten had them. I ordered 2 and I bought 2 of the 1/12 scale Impalas. I have 2 boxers, so I figure one of the cars will bite the dust sooner or later... Either that or I will build one into a static model eventually. I dig the large scale.

Re: I just thought this was too cool......
WOW! that is some serious awesome stuff. The funny thing is, my brother has picked me up a C10 toy for Christmas the last two years... one happened to be the R/C version that started the thread (non-led version ). I could bug him and find out where he got it.
OOO, just remembered a great place to look for toys of the classic era. K&B Toys usually never disappoints as well as some of the major auto stores (D.A.P.S., AutoZone, ect) ...then again, it may just be a Florida thing. Re: I just thought this was too cool......
Yeah zeek, spent lots of dollars at KB growing up
Im posting this for originalJD; I know there are many model and collectable threads already. I started this 57 Chevy over a year ago and it sat until I was inspired by this thread. It was painted and I just finished the chrome trim and touched up the paint a bit. I never finished 'cuz I painted all the chrome trim by hand and then sprayed it with a 'translucent' candy red. I thought the trim would look cool tinted and then the candy buried the color. After the painting was buried I was disappointed. Now that I stuck the stuff on it turned out ok. Its built curbside with no engine; just glued the stuff shut and lowered it. Maybe I'll drag that 1/12th scale out and finish it, too!!

Re: I just thought this was too cool......
That Border Patrol truck is Saw Wheat! I have the truck he started with as well. Took forever to find it!
Here is a couple I have built of this body style. The ’60 was built as a replica of my grandpa’s truck only to be later told by my mom that is truck was dark blue instead of turquoise. Guess, my childhood memory wasn't all that clear after all.

Re: I just thought this was too cool......
Nice work guys; all of those look really cool. Im now finishing a car I built about 5 yrs ago. Again, I lose it on the detail stuff. Generally, I try to do one new thing each model as a way to improve. On large scale I try to do everything that I learned on the little stuff(1/24-25). On 1 Ill wire the engine, on another I will do some custom body stuff, etc. I'm also amazed at the amount of aftermarket stuff for the models. I will post a pic of the latest when I get done.
