Disc SWAP --- Help! 6 lug rotors on 71-87 c10 spindles
First I just wanna say that this forum is awesome! I sometimes have to pry myself from the computer cause I can't stop reading! Right now I'm in the middle of doing a disc brake conversion on my 61 C10. I've got a cross member out of a 85 C10 with the 1 1/4" rotors as required. I'm keeping 6 lug wheels but was wanting to make sure that the 6 lug rotors I buy will work on the 85 C10 drop spindles.
So, has anyone bought 6 lug rotors and put them on a spindle from a 73-87 C10 spindle for your disc swap? These are the two websites that have the 6 lug rotor for sale. I like the CPP rotors cause for some reason they are $50 cheaper for two. CP4R6 6-lug Disc Brake Rotors, pair for $129.00 from Classic Performance and 60-70 C-10 6 lug (1 1/4 thick) $89.00 each from Early Classic Last edited by Daniel 61 Apache; 01-06-2009 at 10:55 PM. |

I bought a set of cpp rotors and they fit great.I believe that they are 1 1/4INCH rotors ,so verify yours are the same thickness before you order.

I got mine from magughys when you could buy direct, still havnt done the swap

I have front end from a 1980 truck and would like to do this same thing. I have heard that there might be some issues with these 6 lug rotors on drop spindles. But I cant see how that could be the case. Can anyone else shed some light on this?

I am not an expert on these issues. I have done 2 trucks, each different, and had NO issues. Others that have had problems mite know more.
The lugs are not the issue, its the bearings and spindles. I BELIEVE there are not any differences on the use of either 6 or 5-lug rotors, as most companies offer the choice of lug pattern with their kits. I would GUESS that would mean the rest of the parts are the same. I would suggest getting on the phone or emailing to find out if the rotors use the same bearing set-up. There are also issues involving the spindles and the balljoints, and what type or year of tie-rods. Thats a different story. Let us know what you find out.....

Well, I went ahead and bought some drop spindles and 6 luggers from CPP. I'll post the outcome soon.

No I have had a bad case of draging feet. I just did my power steering swap on Thanksgiving day weekend, and still am waiting to do the rearend swap as well as the disc brakes. She stops good right know so it hasnt been a big issue, in fact I was thinking of just swaping to a dual master ( drum/drum) untill summer. to take a line from animal house : "Fat dumb and lazy is no way to go throgh life" . But so far thats been me

Sent out an email to ECE and found out some good info. If you have changes out your front end to a newer 73-87 setup and want to keep the 6-lug style you can purchase the $89 ea. 6-lug rotors through ECE part #03-6370-6L - 60'-70' c-10 6-lug (1 1/4" thick) and everthing will work and if you want to add drop spindles they will work too. Part #911-7387HD - '73-'87 Heavy duty for 1 1/4" thick rotors (pair) $229.

I have 72 model drop spindles with 6 lug rotors from ECE. Straight on swap using stock bearings and seals.

I know that CPP is cheaper but from what I have read on here from multiple threads is that......Well they are always messin up on orders and that their customer service is not the best. I am not here to try and rant about them, cuz from what I have scene is that they have some great stuff with good prices and I want to order my stuff from them. I just dont know from all the things I have read on here about them. Does anyone else have a better angle on them?? |

The stuff I used on my 'burb was CPP. I order thru someone who deals with them. The only issue is slow delivery on one item. The parts were good.
You may have to do some very minor grinding on the spindle/caliper mounting spot on top to get clearance for your wheels. ......provided there are no backspace issues. I had 15's originally when I put the spindles on my truck and they fit with about 1/16th inch clearance....aftermaarket 15x8 aluminum.

Original 60's steel wheels will not work w/disc brakes because of caliper interference. The mid 70's 4x4 6-lug ralleys will work but they're not exactly stock enough for some looks/styles.
For a solid steel wheel that does fit dics brakes, you'll need to search for OE 4x4 blazer spares. They were solid steel wheels & the dog-dish style caps will snap right on. The one problem w/these wheels?? They're freakin hard to find in wrecking yards & swap meets.

Well, there goes my plan. CPP says that the drop spindles I need for my swap are discontinued. I'm using a C20 crossmember and was going to use their C20-to-C10 conversion spindles.......Back to the drawing board.

C20 member cause that was the only one I could find around here. I've also got a set of RE7's for all four corners. But without this friggen crossmember situation figured out I'm stuck.
Damn this is frustrating. I can either swap the lower control arm for a C10 and the upper ball joint for a C10, but I could just go ahead and get the conversion spindle from ECE and save a few hundred bucks....... |
