Repop Doors/Your Opinions
After searching for about a year for some very good condition 72 doors, I am resigning myself to the fact I may have to go to new repops. How many different manufacturer's are there and what are your experiences with each one? Any thoughts and help would be appreciated! Thanks. Joel

Re: Repop Doors/Your Opinions
How bad are your originals?
As far as who makes 'em...alot of people SELL them, but sadly, I believe only a few companies MAKE them, and they are in Tiawan and China. They can be made to work with some skill, but will not fit as good as the originals. |

I agree with yotaforce!!!...check out my build thread in my sig....look at page 3 or 4 to see where my body shop had to cut the door to fit better....and still not the best fit!

Re: Repop Doors/Your Opinions
Just yesterday I had installed and aligned repop fenders on a '67 Chevelle. They would not line up with the front door edge for anything so I had a choice of cutting the fenders or the leading edge of the door to get the lines to match. I cut the doors and rewelded the skins. Sucked to have to go through all the extra work, but the gaps are perfect 3/16 and look great. Just one example of repops!

Re: Repop Doors/Your Opinions
My front fenders and doors are repop. Fenders are great, the doors, not so much. You can get them to fit just fine and look good, but they're thin and cheap feeling. The shutter badly when closing the door. I will be repairing my original doors someday (SO glad I saved them!)
I would keep looking. Even if you have to replace the bottom of the doors, you only have to replace the bad parts with patch panels, not the whole thing Check out my build thread in my signature, I got them to fit very well and I'm just a backyard hobby guy, specifically check out this page: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=192693&page=3

Re: Repop Doors/Your Opinions
There was a pair on Denver Craigslist yesterday. I also found 72 doors at the swap meet in Loveland last year. I need a good drivers door for a 70 and will possibly find one at Coy's swap meet this summer.

Re: Repop Doors/Your Opinions
I'm mounting a set of Goodmark doors and the body line are good, just had to cut the welds on the window frame and lean them out a bit other than that they seem pretty good.

Re: Repop Doors/Your Opinions
If you can find some cherry 68-71 your your body guy can use your junk 72 doors and cut out the dimple and turn the door into 72's. That's what I had to do because I could not find a nice drivers side 72 door. Of course after he did the work i found a set of perfect 72 doors.

Re: Repop Doors/Your Opinions
I drilled out the spot welds holding the top hoop on, hung the shell, then tacked the hoop back on while in the door frame. Not ideal but not that hard either. And no; "You shouldn't have to" but that's what it took.

Re: Repop Doors/Your Opinions
The doors are not that bad.....I had to cut mine just as tri pro mention....I actually just cut the re-pop section or hoop out and installed my factory ones.....My doors are Tri-Plus...and they seem pretty stout...I have no shuddering when opening or closing...and they dont feel too weak.....I will say this and i am not sticking up for anybody or anyone....Their aftermarket parts....Its going to take some fit and finish to get to line up and fit the way you want it.....Its easy 35 year old trucks.....Parts that were made today....Their is going to be fitment issues, its all part of the game.........

The fit and finish on my 67 longbed was great when I had it but it was a deluxe truck with every bell and whistle that came from the factory and probably got a bit of extra attention at the factory and dealership. |

Re: Repop Doors/Your Opinions
I have a new LMC on my driverside and Goodmark on passenger......I am not happy with either one......the Goodmark developed a rust bubble in lower front corner in less than a year......they are thin and sound cheap even after loading them up with rubberized undercoating inside......if I had it to do again I would find some good originals....jmho......
