great, there goes my tranny
so i get the freaking carb running ace on the truck. better than it has ever ran before, and what happens......?
the freaking transmission starts taking a crap on me! not sure when it first broke, but when driving in town, its not really slipping, but if i'm accelerating in drive, it down shifts to 2nd and then doesn't want to move back up into drive unless i do it manually. the rpms when crusing act as though it is in drive(1:1) but if you accelerate, it revs up to where it would be if it were in 2nd gear and then "catch" and start going. drove it to work today and started doing it on the way back home. |

Re: great, there goes my tranny
the th350 that was rebuild sometime before i got my 1980 camaro does the same thing, except it no longer even holds drive. I beleive it has to do with the bands on the third gear clutch pack, or something like that. Im no guru on automatics though. Mine has the trait of pushing the dipstick up, have you noticed yours pushing the dipstick outta place?

Re: great, there goes my tranny
It sure sound like your direct clutch pack is toast but the TH350 is really not as hard as most poeple think to rebuild.

i'll be replacing this tranny, not spending time rebuilding it |

Re: great, there goes my tranny
I had the th350 in my 4x4 built for $250. Just find the local guru! Parts for these things are cheaper than dirt, and they can be rebuilt in a hurry. I just added a TCI stall and was good to go.

Re: great, there goes my tranny
I got a $400 reman TH350 from AutoZone that's been working great in my truck for over 6 years now. I doubt it's the best transmission in the world, but I'm ecstatic about it's value for the price I paid.

Re: great, there goes my tranny
maybe check your detent cable adj. and make sure your trans modulator vacuum line is connected at the tranny as well as a good manifold vacuum source, not to a timed "over the throttle blade"vacuum source.
