that slam specialties bags have internal bump stops? I know it's been talked about and whatnot, but I'm curious if anyone has actually seen the inside of an RE7. and better yet, if someone has some pics.

I know a guy that cut one in half to see. Sure enough, it's there. They also won't compress as far as a Contitech or Firestone bag.

Take a flashlight and look in the air hole and you will see a 9/16" or so stud in the bottom. When aired out this stud contacts the top plate. Simple and effective.

Sure thing ! I double checked my RE-8's ! It's in there. It's also the reason the air inlet is offset from the mounting holes !

I've been told that the "bump stop" in the Slam products was NOT designed to support the entire weight of the vehicle. Anyone else heard this?

I had not heard that before, but i would believe it, as the bumpstop is nothing more than the boss for the threaded mounting hole.

The slam bag does have a internal bump stop we taken a re-6 and re-7 apart
at our shop 5 years ago when we made the switch from firestone to slams for
our frontends.

i dont know why more places arent doing like you guys i never understood that if you look at the 2 bags side by side cut inhalf the slams look alot better IMO

A lot of folks dislike slams due to the fact that when deflated they are not as short as other brands.

I don't run Slams myself because the spring rate is too stiff for me. I like the soft spring rate of Contitech and Firestone bags. And both of them have been making bags forever.

That said, I like to use external bump stops on any bag I run. I also like to use Limit straps when I can to keep them from over extending as well.

I slam the front of mine down on the internal bump stops in my RE7's with 1/2" dumps. Yes, it hits kinda hard.

You could be right, but why push it. I would run bump stops regardless. This ensure that your bag isn't getting stressed, pinched, etc while you are parking lot cruise when aired out.

I had an exhaust failure that caused a supply line to blow while I was in the middle of nowhere. I drove on the paved shoulder of the highway for about 5 miles to get to a rest stop. When the exhaust was repaired and the damage was assessed, all I needed was a a piece of air line.

Had I been riding on internal stops rather than real bump stops I think the outcome would have been much different.

Hopefully this is not too far off the original topic, sorry if it is.

I seen someone mention "limit straps", we use these on race cars to keep the rear end from dropping down so far that the rear coil springs come out of their pockets when the car is on jack stands....

Saying that I was curious about a few things.

I have never ran an air bag set-up before but I was wondering about this, when the truck is placed on stands do you guys let the rear end hang from the bags? I know the panard bar limits distance but I would think the rearend would still be pulling down on the bags?? I would think this would be a bad thing.

On the fronts, there would not be a problem because the upper A frame would bottom out and limit that travel distance correct?
