Does anybody have a pic of the dash "cap" installed
CaptKaos.. I looked at your site and I am considering the dash cap over the new dash. Mainly for cost. This truck is not a show truck, just a weekend driver to hardware store, etc. I am converting from the red interior to black. Will the black cap completely cover the orginal red dash? Does anybody have a pic of the cap installed?
thanks |

Re: Does anybody have a pic of the dash "cap" installed
I'm not in a position to post pics for you but having bought several of these
when installed properly they look just like a new dash pad and I think represent an excellent value for anything but a full on restoration any driver will look fantastic for about 100 bucks MArk

I've seen them and don't particularly like most. Alot of guys are getting there stock pad recovered in vinyl. I think that is the way to go.

Re: Does anybody have a pic of the dash "cap" installed
I had one on my chevy, but the original dash was red. So any place that the cap didn't completely cover showed through. It eventually cracked on the bottom strip off to the passenger side... I took it off so now all I have is a nasty looking beat up red dash with black adhesive all over it...
I really gotta recover that thing... |

Re: Does anybody have a pic of the dash "cap" installed
Mark, that is kinda where I am. I don't like the red, but I am not willing to give $200 plus to change it either. I would like to see yours.
Captkaos, I would like to see your pics. If I go this route I will definatetly order from you. Also, how much for the pad that goes under the vinyl floor? My truck's floor is ok, but the pad was trashed. |

Re: Does anybody have a pic of the dash "cap" installed
The pad is sold by the yard, how much do you want?
When I find the pic I will post it. If you put it on like it was supposed to, you can't tell it is a cover....

Re: Does anybody have a pic of the dash "cap" installed
Here's mine just did it today. If you do it make sure you hold it down everyware.
The only thing i would have changed is i would have tried to order it w/o speaker holes. (I dont have any speakers in the dash) Last edited by paruszkiewicz; 03-05-2009 at 07:20 PM. |

Re: Does anybody have a pic of the dash "cap" installed
I’m not real happy with mine. Found it brand new un-opened on CL for 15.00. A sticker on the inside indicated an inspection date of 7/1994 so it had been sitting around for a while. The cover bubbles up in the sun then flattens back out in the shade, weird. I used silicon as recommended in the instructions.
The cover does look way better than what I had but I’m still looking for a nice stock dash. Or, I’ll just get a cracked one recovered. Mine was certainly worth 15 bux, I’d expect a lot more from one setting me back 100+ dollars.

Mine is from LMC it is a cap and it is a POS. The Texas sun sure did not help matters but it is all wavey. They are a good fixed for a cracked dash tho

Re: Does anybody have a pic of the dash "cap" installed
The other difference is the shape. If you look on the front down near the end near the door panel on the 81-91 dashes, you'll see a little kick-out at the end along the vents. On the 73-80s, it's flat all the way across the front.
Compare the two trucks paruszkiewicz posted. 81-87: 73-80: The pad on the 73-80s is at three different front angles just over the instruments. The 81-87s are flat. There might be more differences, but those are the ones I've noticed.
