PS Pump Mounting Question

Here's a little background. My '75 1/2 ton 2wd originally had a 250/3-speed and was converted to a 350/TH400. Also, the guy that converted it put an Edelbrock intake on it (and painted it blue ).

Anyway, I don't think the bracket on there is right. I tried to replace the belt yesterday and when I tried to pull the old belt off, I had to totally unbolt the pump. There is no room for the pump to slide down to loosen the belt without unbolting the pivot bolt. The belt I got (same number as old one) was too tight and I couldn't get it on there. It was slightly shorter than the old one probably do to the old one being stretched.

It just seems like there should be more adjustment room for the pump to slide back and forth.

Here are the pics of the PS pump and how it bolts up. The pivot bolt goes through the waterpump which seems to be right. However, the long bracket that bolts into the intake doesn't seem right. I don't have AC and the belt just goes from the PS to Crank pulley.

Does anyone have a picture of how their PS pump is mounted? Also, does this seem right? How should it be mounted and with what bracket?

Thanks in advance!!

bracket

check to see if there is a bolt on the bottom of the pump bracket. my 78 has one that has to be reached from under the truck. looks like you have some #^%#%^ engineered brackets there bud. You may need to take that "custom" one off and reinstall it after the belt is on with the other nuts tight to hold the tension.

Nope, no bolt on the bottom. I did have to take the pump off to get the old belt back on. Was a pain in the A$$!!! Still have that belt on as the new one was too short. Seems like I need a new bracket but not sure what to go with.

think you have some mismatched brackets. I would try to find some off a truck at a salvage yard. those ones you got probably came with that motor whatever car it came out of. You will have to do a little modification wiht spacers to get the bracket to work with the headers. Too bad 2 weeks ago I threw out a bunch of these type of brackets..

You have for sure got a rigged mess.

Here's close to what it should look like. I modded my stock bracket a little because of my headers.

Thanks Mike, that helps. I'll compare what you have to mine. Pictures are always easier for me to understand.

Looks like how I did mine before I got the old bracket that I needed. Scott I got a bracket from the junkyard and made it like Swervin's. It's the AC bracket that mounts to the P/S pump that Swervin's showing. If anyone has one you might grab one.

Nope, won't work. I only have about 1 inch of adustment room. If I adjusted it any more than that then the pulleys will not line up.

Nope, I put the shiny new headers on and the bracket was already there.

Thanks, I'll look for one.

I knew I probably had a rig-job. Does anybody have one of these AC brackets? If so, email me at scott_shelbourne@yahoo.com or PM me. Also, if anyone has the specs on one, I can have one made.

Thanks!!!

that sure looks a lot different then the bracket on my 77. One side of the bracket mounts to the water pump. the other side mounted to the manifold. Of course now i have headers so there is a spacer between the bracket and the header.

Here is the GM exploded parts pic of the A/C brackets. This picture leaves out the P/S pump brackets, but at least piece 18 is shared by the A/C Compressor and the P/S pump. Looks like piece seven is the one missing from your setup.
