6.2L No Start Problem

OK, I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what's up with my truck not starting. The last time it ran was back in Aug. 2007 when we moved to our new house and hasn't been driven since because of a leak in the fuel line.

I've already tried to get the air out of the lines at the IP and injectors. Might have killed my batteries in the process lol. I got any water I could out of the tank and dumped in about 10 gallons of fresh fuel. The glow plugs were replaced shortly before I got the truck in 2006 and I didn't put a ton of miles on them. But that's not saying they couldn't be bad.

So, does anyone have other suggestions? I'm a rookie when it comes to diesels and I don't have a ton of money to send it to a specialty shop here in town. I'd like to get it on the road for the summer so I can get some drive time in it before I tear it down, and in case we decide to move to a bigger house for my growing family.

Or, maybe I should cut my losses and build the 4 bolt 350 I have instead. But then my father-in-law wouldn't be happy since he hoped I'd keep the diesel and do all the other mod's I wanted. The 6.2 in a frame draggin' 1/2 would still have some cool factor to it lol.

try spraying silicone spray in the air filter housing a good amound while somone is cranking this should get it started if it wont start or try to start then take out a glow plug and re attach to the wire it and cycle the key it should glow orange.........give that a shot and let me know how you make out

don't spray anything to start in the intake to start a 6.2l...the stock 9g glow plugs will swell and bust...if you want some good advice from people who all have 6.2s then here's some sites for you...they should be able to get you up and running...

Easiest way to test glow plugs is this.... Disconnect the glow plug, take a 12 volt test light, hook the cord end of the light to the positive battery terminal, then press the test light against the terminal on the glow plug, if it lights up the plug is good, no light the plug is dead. These truck were also notorious for the glow plug relay going dead, test this by disconnecting one of the glow plug wires, hook it up to a test light and have a friend turn the key on, there should be power there for between 5 and 10 seconds, depending on tempature. Aside from that, I would start by changin the fuel filter, make sure the new one is full before installed, their should be a valve like a tire valve on the filter housing, start bleeding the system there, once you figure you have all of the air from the housing, you can bleed the injectors, do this by cranking the engine and cracking the fittings on each injector until good fuel comes around, once this is all done the motor should start, if not then do a compression test, cant remember what pressure they should be at, 180psi iirc. Try to make sure u let the starter cool down once in a while so it doesnt burn out.

Join, The Diesel Page, and become a paying member, I did and I have learned a bunch, they have an article on troubleshooting when a 6.2 doesn't start. But it is plagiarism form e to copy and paste it. Trust me, it is money WELL spent. As said above NEVER spray starter fluid intro a 6.2, NEVER.
