72 2wd lift?

I have a 72 C20....I really want to do a 4x4 conversion. Unfortunatly, funds wise it will take me a while to pull the funds together to to the four wheel drive thing, so........does anybody know of any way to do a lift on a 72 C20, relatively affordable?

Have you considered a body lift?

Not a fan of body lifts at all, the looks of the, jacking steering angles up....just can't stand them.........

One way to accomplish i lift on these 2wd is to lower the cross member, i ran across a a early 60's truck done this way yesterday, i talked to the owner and he said that it rode just like before just took some time to fabricate. Im going to swing by a take some pictures of it tomorrow night on my way home and then ill post them up to show you what he did.

Right on and thank you. I figure that the suspension on these trucks hasn't changed a whole lot until you get to the early 2000's, so there has to be a way, even if it's mix matching parts. I'm starting to think that if it's going to become expensive that I might as well switch it to four wheel drive........

How did you get the suspension lift on the blue truck? and is there a gap above the rear bumper from the body lift?.....I am interested in the crossmember lift, I'm assuming this is something I can do at home with a welder and material, is a tubing bender needed? Thanks guys

The front suspension is lifted by Rancho Springs, 1 inch upper ball joint spacer and the rear is completely stock (including the original shocks). the front frame horns were cut and moved up 3 inches, braced and welded back up. The rear bumper brackets was moved up and bolted/welded in. I am not using the ball on the bumper. I had a drop hitch welded into the frame for all of my towing needs. I am also very interested....If you can, please get the details and pictures on what he did for the steering.

I knew of someone who lowered the crossmember but the steering geometry was off. They took two idler arms and placed a block of steel in between to make up the 3 inch difference, however to clear the crossmember it actually shortened the throw of the pitman arm, thus making the turning radius very short. (he couldn't make a 3 point turn, it was more like a 5 point turn) \
