Where does this belong?

I got this wire w/2 bulbs on it from a truck that I took some parts off of. I am assuming it's for illuminating the heater/ac controls or the floorboard area....but it's a dangerous thing to "assume" things, ya know?

Also, exactly where would this plug into the fuse box? An accessory spot or is there an actual spot for it?

If anyone has any input, it'd be appreciated.

Greg

My 83 has a setup like that, except only one bulb and it illuminates the floorboard. It plugs in on a terminal in the back of the dash.

No, they came from inside of the cab. I undid the wiring that was pictured, and I was mistaken, it's not two bulbs on one line, each bulb has it's own wire. One had the plug and the other has been cut.

I think I will use them to illumiate the floorboard though and figure something else out for the heater/ac control.

Re: Where does this belong?

those are for the heater control panel on an A/C truck.
The stock 'as original' one wires in through the harness, but with that plug, you can plut it into the fuse block... I can't remember what the tab is marked, but it is right by the inst panel fuse, and the terminal is controlled through the rheostat on the headlight switch.

A/C panel lights, one fits in the end closest to the driver the other on the side closest to the passenger.

So is there a socket that the bulb/housing fits into that makes a grounding connection? Or will the light function w/out being grounded?

If anyone has a pic of one of these bulbs installed, that would be a great help.

Thanks,
Greg

Those metal tabs around the bulb are the ground.

Re: Where does this belong?

On where it plugs,it has to plug in the dash light circuit, because if you plug it in to the fuse box it will work all the time you would think.

Yeah, but where does the bulb connect up to?

Re: Where does this belong?

the tab on the fuse block is labeled cluster feed, it is controlled by the headlight switch, the bulb will come on and off, and dim, just like the dash lights. The terminal is there for this very reason.
The bulbs plug into the 2 holes on either end of the heater control panel on an A/C equipped truck, the lights will ground through the metal tabs on the sockets as seen in the photo, the tabs hold the assembly in place, and ground through the control panel.
Try it... it'll work.

Re: Where does this belong?

When you ask, "where does the bulb connect up to," are you wanting to know where the socket housing goes?

It will be a round hole the same diameter of the plastic housing. But since I don't have A/C on mine, I won't have the hole for it. Mine has a smaller bulb in a similar housing that plugs into a hole behind the heater/defrost controls.

Maybe someone else has a pic with the A/C one...

Yessireee, you're on the right track. I looked, but I didn't see a spot for them to plug into. I'll have to look again......a little better this time maybe.

Thanks,
Greg

Re: Where does this belong?

The bulb sockets plug into the rear of the a/c heater control head. There is a hole on both sides and they will snap in.

Re: Where does this belong?

3.5 year old thread, I hope he got his bulbs figure out by now =)

As far as purchasing a set of these lights, watch the parts board.

Also, after reading the responses it reminds me how much the board (at least I do) misses Andy
