Specs needed
I just have an easy question. Need the upper ball joint bolt torque specs and the spec for the castle nut at spindle.
I have the service manual but it has all the numbers crossed out and refers me to an update that is not in the book. Thanks |

Wild guess, about 75-95 lb. ft. tq. Wheel studs are about 85 -95 for a 1/2" wheel stud.

O.K. I got it. 10ft/lbs on the 1/4" bolts at the A-arm. 65ft/lbs on the castle nut on the spindle. Thanks.

ya somewhere around here there is a tq. spec chart. Just make it tight. Dont back it off. you will lose the preload if u do.

tighten the spindle nut while spinning the rotor ... tighten until rotor will NOT free-wheel ... back off spindle nut to the closest cotter pin hole.
Mechanics have been using this method for YEARS with most not even knowing what "pre-load" is. Sorry, but can't help on the ball joint fasteners. I can't see where it would be that critical considering the bolt really have nothing to do with the movement mechanism of the ball joint. But that's just an assumption on my part. |
