Lug nuts are standard 1/2" right hand thread.

Re: what size of lug nut fits ?

They should be a standard thread, 1/2" RH thread.

I just found this out on the 1980 that I bought, every other older GM product I have had has been 7/16" RH thread, but these pickups have a heavier stud.

I'm assuming it is the same on your 79 and someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Yup, the 5 lug are 1/2"-20 RH
and the 6 lug are 7/16'-20 RH
I am pretty sure that the Metric threads started with the 6 lug 1988 model trucks.
