67 283 PG bolt into a 65 ?
I am taking the body off of my 67 1/2 ton to put on my 72 4x4 and my friend has a 65 1/2 ton with a 6 cylinder 3 speed. My 283 with PG trans should bolt right in to his truck, using the trans crossmember and steering column. He will have access to all of my parts except the radiator and fan shroud.Tell me if I am thinking right on this. Thanks

Sounds about right. You may have to give him your motor ount towers and drive shaft too...but it should all go in. I have pretty much concluded you can install anything in these trucks, and the 65 is the same as a 67 underneath the skin.

I do not know if this helps but I just replaced a 292??? straight six from a 65 with a 250 from a 67. the motor mounts were not the same and the motor stands off the crossmember were also not the same or in the sam location.

Yes, 73 is when they chainged.
The 292 and 250 had diferant mounting points. I think the 292 had staggered mounts, used a V8 and an inline mounting point if memory serves. Btu the frame rails should be the same. Just need the proper small block towers. Even big block towers would work...that's whats in the GMC with a 350 on them. |

That is correct. They did have staggered mounts but even the motor mount itself from the passenger side would not fit the 250. I cant believe that 2 engines so similar would be so different.
