Re: JUST A FEW PICS OF MY ENGINE.under constructio
I have always used black wire loom for hiding wires. Covers them and blends them into the surrounding pieces.....

The one thing I see that I don't like is your flex fan. They have a history of flying a part and yours looks bent already. They have been known to fly to pieces and blow though hoods.

Re: JUST A FEW PICS OF MY ENGINE.under constructio
to clean up the wires you can just get rid of the ones you dont need slowly and patiently. I got rid of alot of wires on my truck when i started cleaning up the engine compartment. as far as fans go to a upick and try to find yourself an electric ford fan off a taurus or a 5.0 mustang and wire it on the high speed it will keep your engine really cool.

Re: JUST A FEW PICS OF MY ENGINE.under construction
Use plastic looms to hide wires. I used black.
Without a shroud, your fan is basically robbing power. Last edited by gchemist; 06-27-2009 at 08:03 PM. |

Re: JUST A FEW PICS OF MY ENGINE.under construction
I agree with the plastic looms. I used that when I re-wired my truck and it cleaned it up and looks so much better. Also-If you want to run electric fans-90's windstar fans are awesome! This pic was right before I put them on.

Re: JUST A FEW PICS OF MY ENGINE.under construction
I got some SPW hold downs from Jegs that go on the side of VC and over the headers...They are GM performance. Just don't look at my ugly heater hoses. Also my wife did the driver's side so the Chevrolet logo on the plug wires are all Upside down. Your engine is looking great tho.

Re: JUST A FEW PICS OF MY ENGINE.under construction
i would take it one step up and use tech flex it will be more work to install as its not splint like the wire loom but looks bad ass once its done.
oh and this is not my install I am just steeling the pics.

Re: JUST A FEW PICS OF MY ENGINE.under construction
I'd go with a black wire and you are probably going to have to get the ones that you cut to fit. You have to cut them to fit and crimp the terminals/install the boots. They are a huge PITA, but the only way to get long enought to run under your headers or wherever you want to run them. You could try going with stock Corvette (late 60's-early 70's I think) wires (with the Ram Horn style exh. manifolds). They are a bit longer as the factory routed the wires behind the exh manifolds. Usually replacement wires come in a greyish color which isn't too bad.
I'd also go to a junkyard and see if you can pick up a stock type clutch fan and shroud to fit your truck. That flex fan is dangerous as stated above, and pretty much useless that far away from the radiator.

Re: JUST A FEW PICS OF MY ENGINE.under construction
Being your engine compartment is black, that is what your going to need to blend things visually to make them disappear. Black wire loom will do wonders, really like that black sheathing someone showed above, because it isnt shiney like the regular loom is.
Black cut to fit plug wires is another trick--unless you want to show them off. Think about ways to hide things and tuck them and the wires out of the way. Dont be afraid to try and solder wires to make them longer or shorter to hide them. If you are going polished and chrome around the engine, then keep things in that area either the same or paint it black--or the same color as the engine--or a natural steel color or grey---this is sometimes a tough decision. Good thing is its paint and can be stripped if you dont like it. We did alot of work to my friends duster, and without getting to crazy, i hide the stock mopar ignition box, and alarm horn under his battery tray. We blacked out the alternator by having it powder coated, all the grackets are black, the headers are black, everything that is basically an eyesore was neatend and blackend out. We grouped stuff around the brake booster and master cyl as you expect to see things there anyway. All you see is a nice orange engine, nice black wrinkle valve covers, and powdercoated aluminum intake and yellow plug wires (which match the car). I'll see if i can dig out a pic. The limit is your imagination. I strongly suggest getting and being aquainted with the proper ways to solder and shrink wrap wires to make this hiding things easier. A butane operated solder iron is what i use, as its cordless.

Re: JUST A FEW PICS OF MY ENGINE.under construction
Oh, if you get into lengthening and shortening wires, be forwarned, it is a long a laborous process, i had a good day and a half modifying his stock wiring to fit our needs.

Re: JUST A FEW PICS OF MY ENGINE.under construction
I have extended alot of the wires and ran them thru the passenger side of the firewall and back out at the far bottom corners then passed thru the cut outs in the fenders and along the inside of the frame rails, all wrapped in
convoluted tubing. Took awhile, but pleased with the results. Also went with Billet Specialties spark plug wire looms so less wire was exposed. Once you give it some thought and a little work, your compartment is going to look great. Be sure to post some after pics. |
