The Stealth Bummer

I posted a photo of this car last July when I got it but am I just now beginning to work on it…
I call it a Stealth Bummer…a hold over name from when we used to race them in the mid-eighties.

1978 Cutlass Salon with an unknown year of nose.
Sports a low mileage 403ci, built T400, AC, Cruise, Tilt, 273 Posi, buckets & console shift.

Mechanically, the car is in fine shape (and really scoots!)
but the interior is completely trashed and will be my summer's alternate tinkering.

Looks kind of little but it's actually the same basic frame as a chevelle.

Where in the world is the motor??

Interior sucks but it does have a cool steering wheel

No yet but I'll surely check it out … thanks for the link!

I’ve got memberships in the 78 - 88 Oldsmobile Forum and ClassicOldsmobile.com but find
little interest in looking at every ones Hursts…pretty hard to find an Olds forum
where I won't be ranked on or outright laughed at for cobbling so many parts together ...

...mine being just a ratty, weird looking hotrod-around-town ride!

Re: The Stealth Bummer

Nice- another Olds fan! I have a '66 Cutlass convertible I'm trying to get back on the road for the summer. It's orinally red, white top, black interior, four-speed, and a 320 horse 330 motor. With the factory 3.90 gears, it moves! Trying to find a ram-air '71 442, but they're expensive!

Hmmmmm...when I went to bed, the truck was blue and the bummer, maroon.

Guess they got into some mischief.

Re: The Stealth Bummer

when I lived in northern Illinois I had an 85 Cutlass Supreme 4 door. amazingly pathetic 307/2004R and a 2.14 rear. it barely got out of it's own way until I smoked that 307. then I dropped in my 355 (~420 HP) and a BUILT TH350 with a 3000 stall converter. tollways were extremely fun to say the least. best of all it was completely stealth. the exhaust was well hidden behind the trailer hitch (hehehe) and sounded just like a mustang with aftermarket pipes. 42 MPH and it would still kick down to first, perfect for when Ford guy came up from behind. I can only imagine what that must have looked like from behind. an old faded blue 4 door family car with the drivers door skin flapping in the wind suddenly jump to life and squirm side to side looking for traction with the front end lurching into the air. WTF?????!!!!

Re: The Stealth Bummer

Stealth is the key word here and the more odd ball the model (and not common or easy on the eyes) all the better to smack you with!! I have been eyeballing a little longbed chevy LUV for just that, i have a 383 and a 200r4, man the fun I could have!! BUT I have too many irons in the fire but a guy can still dream right?? Sweet car and too cool on the dare 2 B different side!
