The 9-5. The Daily Grind.
I guess to get to know everyone a little better. At this time I am serving a 3 year apprenticeship to be a Diesel Mechanic for Union Pacific RailRoad. This is the kind of stuff I get to work on.
This is what you see when you remove the turbo, cam gears (top), Idler gear (center). This is the turbo about 4' tall, pushin 4 times atmospherical preasure at full load, 18,000 rpm at full load. This is a GE (General Electric power assembly) about 700 cubic inch per assembly x 16 cylinders. And this is what the brake eqiupment looks like, tons of valves. Let see what ya'll up to on a daily basis

Automotive machinest, AKA engine builder. Been at the same place for almost 20 years. Started my Junior year of high school. I do everything that has to do with the short block machining wise. I assemble all the motors. This week I put together a jeep 134 flat head. I have a 400 pontiac on the stand waiting for a rear main seal before going to gether to eliminate that stupid rope seal. NO LEAKS!!!

The first 2 are where I do research and development (what a mess), and the third is what I set up so the DR's can read the digital images (X-Rays, CT's MRI's Ultrasound...etc) on computers instead of film.

Re: The 9-5. The Daily Grind.
pipe supervisor these days, but every job is different. Last year I built this, just me and a welder. we did all the pipe you see, and alot you can't see. had a blast!
Now I'm supervising a crew putting in about 2500' of 14, 12, 10, 8" pipe, lots of smaller pipe, a couple hundred valves of all sizes, 16 large ash collectors, 4 large blower assemblys, 2 air compressors, etc etc. Wish I could get pics, but cameras are not allowed........ BTW, that's 14 & 12" in the pics, some 6" IIRC

Re: The 9-5. The Daily Grind.
Well, I have been in property restoration for the last 2-1/2 years, but my recent thread states, that's about to change. I will not miss it, it's a lot like Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe. We're talking fire cleanup, water damage, mold, bio hazards including crime scene cleanup etc.. I've done some of the nastiest, dirtiest, most unpleasant things you can imagine while I've been there, so when they took me aside the other day and said the Summer slow down had gotten to the point where someone had to go, I wasn't too upset about it. I'm trying to go back to something like shipping or dispatching, which I used to do. I really want to see if I can get a job helping veterans since I am one.
