Re: coil cut???
Yes it can be done.I did a 84 about 10 years ago. We placed a jack on the engine crossmember and jacked it up so both tires were off the ground about 3". Used a torch and cut 2 coils off.Pulled out the 2 coils and let the jack down. This really lowers the front. Had to add alot of shims to get the wheels straight up and down. They leaned way in at the top.

Re: coil cut???
Just like he said, just cut one coil at a time and test it then if you think it need to go lower just cut 1/2 of the next one.

Re: coil cut???
Keep in mind that various trucks have different springs, age of springs, engine combinations that have different weights. My 250 6 cylinder 3 speed truck dropped one inch after i cut exactly one coil, yours may be different. I highly recommend you take out the spring to do any cutting. Sure, it's an all afternoon job, but I see all sorts of red flags trying to torch one while it's installed. That's coming from a guy that has lost 2 friends to burn injuries while they were using torches on a car/truck.
Correction!!! My truck dropped 3 inches with cutting one coil.

Re: coil cut???
that sounds dangerous cutting coils in the truck with a torch and I agree to s-10 fan, I would take the time and take out the coil and cut

Re: coil cut???
You should NEVER cut a spring with a torch, too much heat, it will affect the spring integrity. Use a cut off wheel for better results. I also suggest removing the spring as opposed to doing it with it in the truck.

Re: coil cut???
serioously....rent from autobone a spring compressor.... then do it the "right way" because a accident with a spring can kill you..
period... please dont half ass something like that.. im genuinely concerned for your safety on this one.. plus.. if you have both out of the truck you can double check and grind a "smooth" lip onto it so they sit nicley into the spring cups.. thus preventing unnecessary wear on the parts... or save money and buy shorter springs.....

Re: coil cut???
with the cheap cost of coil springs why not just buy a set of lowering springs... i mean hey i cold save $30 on jack stands by using a couple of 2X4s but hey... know what i mean?
