Re: What did you get done firecracker 7/4/09 edition
Skipped the firecraker purchases and ended up breaking out the pressure washer and cleaning up the undercarriage of the '69.
Had some friends/family over yesterday for some BBQ, and recouped today. I hope everyone had a great 4th!

Re: What did you get done firecracker 7/4/09 edition
I worked all day Friday so my guys could have the day off. I still don't get this whole day before the holiday off thing, but whatever.
Saturday I worked inside till mid day since it was 103 outside. We went to my bro-in-laws house for barbeque. Then watched his boys blow stuff up with firecrackers. Today I spent 5 hours in my yard working on my sprinkler system. We haven't had rain in several weeks and the 100+ temps are smoking my grass. It was time to give it some relief and adjust/replace a couple dozen heads. Later I cleaned up a few of my flower beds, then added mulch and 6 flats of Vincas to replace everything that was frazzled from the heat. Went to the local full service car wash and had the Denali inspected and detailed. I'm hot and tired now...

Member "hot trux" and I spent the weekend at the Goodguys event in Des Moines. Great turn out with more than 3300 vehicles. I left the blazer at home and we opted for selling parts in a swap meet spot this time.
The weather was perfect!

Re: What did you get done firecracker 7/4/09 edition
I ran wild in the wrecker, got to go pull some ole boy out who got his Z-71 sideways and buried up to the frame in the mud at a bottom of a boat ramp.
Then I took my girlfriend down to the beach and we watched the fireworks. That was nice.

Re: what did you get done 7/4/09 firecracker edition
well over the prior week i had changed my hood out with my buddy and he installed the grey kick panels and visors that i had bought from another member here.
Since the truck was new to me there have been several issues plaguing it. For starters there were no dash lights to speak of and the temperature guage never worked and finally the crossover switch didnt seem to work. No matter what you put on the tank th switch never moved . The other major issue was that the left side tank, which was the one that worked , started leaking , and you smelled gas especially when the tank was full I have lent my truck for a few weeks to a buddy whos car died and he couldnt afford to replace it right now so in return he is doing some work for me on my truck He began looking into the electrical gremblins and ill say this... whomever owned this truck before me and messed with it probably shouldnt breed or work on vehicles First off he discovered that the radio wires were all cut and not properly taped which is why the radio wasnt working correctly The fuel tank selector switch either broke or was taken apart and some moron tried crazy gluing it together rendering it jammed to the left side Every light bulb in the dash was bad and lastly the idiot had spliced in several pieces the line to the temperature guage sender unit rendering the guage useless Yesterday i began to search online for a gas tank and the straps for one. After searching online i found that advance auto parts had the best prices online . sp i decided to go out there and order one. Lesson learned i printed the sheets out from the computer with the parts and well the prices dont match in the store as online but if you show them the print out , they will honor the online price.. SO i ordered a new tank for $99 and the straps for $23 and the tank switch in the dash for $12 They promised me that i would have them in stock from their PA warehouse today even tho it was a holiday and believe it or not they did Today i spent the day with Bille. We first swapped out the sun pro temp guage and that works great.. then we tackeld the tank. It turns out i had 16 gallon dual tanks ( smaller tanks are ore money than the larger ones) so we swapped in one large one on the left side We popped in the new switch for the tanks and that worked the tank job was a bear having to get things lined up for the swap to the larger tank, and we put new fill lines that we kinda made out of hose but it works... all except for the the fact that the one steel line started leaking on the left side when we bent it so we could add hose to make the long tank work on my truck... that is a job for another day i tried adding pics but they needed to be resized so ill work on that later

Re: what did you get done 7/4/09 firecracker edition
well my weekend started on Wednesday. I went and had a mini vacation in Seattle, did lots of walking and sight seeing. then Friday I tinkered with the truck for a last ditch effort to see if it can make it to a truck show on the 5th. turned out whatever I did helped a lot and it did "OK" drove the truck for about 100 miles total Saturday and Sunday. Saturday I hung around with my girl and went to see "state of play" then we went out to a fair and dinner and go find some fireworks shows. Sunday, I rolled out of bed at 6:30 am to get ready and head out to the show at the XXX Root beer in Issaquah. met a few members! there were only 2! 73-87 chevs there! mine and a 73 wich was for sale for about 5G's.
then I drove home and took a nap!

Re: what did you get done 7/4/09 firecracker edition
My weekend began on Friday so the day was spent welding in patch panels to repair some rust issues with the Heap's floor. I had bought new rockers and a left side floor pan but didn't need any of them. I had my body guy look at it and he gave me thumbs up so I guess it's OK. LOL. Oh, just to prove everything is right in the world.....I ran out of Argon at 4:55 PM on Friday. Of course anyone that was open on Friday would be closing at 5:00, so I finished up with flux core wire. Man I hate that stuff. LOL.
Pulled the front clip Saturday morning and listed the useable parts on CL. Everything except the core support will be replaced with new stuff this week. The core support cleaned up really nice and had zero rust issues, some satin black has it looking good. Scrubbed the firewall, hit it with some satin black and cleaned up the wire looms. Today was spent cleaning the front frame rails and hitting the 250 six with some Chevy orange. I don't go back to work until the 20th, so this is going to be on heck of a long weekend!
