Disassemble the bed while still on the frame?
I've looked all over to see if I could find pictures or descriptions of this being but to no avail... is it possible to take the bed apart into it's constituent panels without taking the bed off the frame?
I'd like to go over each piece by hand to clean off rust and prime but I don't have a lift to remove it from the frame. Also, I don't have any ready help to take it off by hand. But I figure me and my buddy could handle each of the sections by themselves. Is that possible? |

Well you can take the bulk head that is between the cab and bed off and the tail gate but the bed sides are welded on.

No they are not, there are only 2 small beads at the back near the TG, the rest is bolted on.

And a special thanks to Jeff - I somehow missed that article on your page: but your page is in fact how I found these great boards! Your page is also what inspired me to tackle this beast with my own hands (as much as possible). I'm forever in your debt! |

I don't have any experience doing this, but I've read posts that suggest to tighten and sheer off the bolts holding the bed together rather than loosen them. They tend to lock and spin.

Re: Disassemble the bed while still on the frame?
We did on my dad's truck that way. Of course the cab was off. The only thing left was the bed floor and frame. I dont remember much trouble doing it but it 18 years ago. Replaced both bed sides and the front panel. I need to get the pictures and post them. Truck is getting ready to got thru another make over.
