Gas Tank Help
Okay '86 Chevy Longbox. Its got the saddle tanks. I am looking for 2 gas tanks for it. What all years would fit it? And is there any difference in 2wd gas tanks? I have heard that short boxs have smaller tanks is that true? Thanks for any advice in advance.

Re: Gas Tank Help
i had a long box that had small tanks and they were rotted out. I wound up replacing the tanks with aftermarket tanks made by spectra. Unless you can find used tanks, aftermarkets are the way to go. I went and bought mine from advanced auto parts and i ordered them in the store after getting the price online and making them match the price in the store as online... I paid $99 per tank and the $23 for the straps. There are two sets of holes for the tanks and if you have long tanks its a direct bolt in... just use the other set of holes.
Also make sure you keep the straps loose enough so that you can adjust them to line up feel free to ask any questions as i just did this job

Re: Gas Tank Help
Yeah local auto parts stores carry new ones. Usually the used ones you find have the same rusting out issues.
Long beds have 20 gallon tanks, and short beds have 16 gallon tanks. |
