My new truck!
Below are some pics of the truck that I inherited this last weekend.
So far this is what I know about it. 1970 Chevrolet C20 3/4 ton 307 engine (unknown if its original, but it is a 70's model motor) 3 on the tree manual transmission Original color was Medium Blue The truck was bought by my grand father in about 1972-1973 when it had 18,000 miles on it. It was used as a farm truck up until about 2006 when my grand father got sick and it has been parked since then.

Welcome,definately has potential, must have been a reliable vehicle if your grandfather kept it that long. If that truck was mine, it would be back in its 501 blues.

i have never seen such a skimpy spid sheet! hahahaa.
i have a bunch of them that i have pulled from the junkyard + mine, some are nearly full some not so much, that is just a bare basics flat out bottom of the line work truck. cool. |

I remember hearing truck salesman in the mid 70's say they didn't like selling base model trucks, because GM made very little profit off them.Its no wonder they did not keep many on there lot at that time, most where loaded down cheyennes and siverados. Businesses and farmers counted there pennies. |

Thanks for all of the comments and any suggestions or information / advice will be greatly appreciated.
I already have a question. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out what the factory paint colors and schemes (two tone and what have you) were for my year, I will probably stay with the factory blue, but I am really liking the blue over white over blue trucks that I have seen on here. Also I am going to try and work on the truck some this weekend. With the truck sitting for so long I am planning to drain the gas tank and if the contents aren't too dirty add new gas and see if it will start. Will this be okay or should I go ahead and blow the lines out and clean the carb?

I would go ahead and blow out the lines and clean the carburetor. Might as well do that since you will be cleaning out the tank. Wouldn't matter how clean the tank is cleaned, if the lines and carb are dirty.

Hey Tim,
You get your pickup running? I have the two chevy manuals as well as chiltons and haynes manuals for these trucks if you need to borrow them. Live up the street from Fannin Elem. two 69's sitting out front. Still need paint but they are running and a blast to drive. Brian |

Thanks everyone for the welcomes and the advice.
Brian, I got it running shortly after draining the tank, blowing the lines out, and adding new fuel. Funny thing was I had to charge the battery all day, then had to jump it off on top of the charged battery as it only wanted to turn over like one round before it bogged down on the battery alone. Once I hooked up my dd it turned over very nicely. Prior to the madden voyage I checked the brakes and filled the master cylinder. The madden voyage consisted of me pulling out onto the road with brakes, driving half a block to a stop sign, coasting thru the stop sign (without any brakes) with my teeth clenched as well as another body part (but we will not go into that), then turning around and driving it or coasting it back to my home where I parked it (and cleaned out my shorts).  Looks like brakes are next on the list. LOL Also I live in Andrews not Midland, I always put Midland, because no one ever knows where Andrews is at and I always tell them that I am 45 miles from Midland and 30 miles from Odessa. Thanks for the offer for the manuals though. .
