73-80 bumpers on 81-87 frame?
First off where is the search thats normally above the posts at? I can't find the tab to click on that says search this forum? OK my question is that I am in the process of switching my 79 over to an 87 or so frame, I know the front of the frame is different so how do I go about mounting up some older bumpers to the newer frame?

Search has been disabled for now. You will need to cut off a set of 73-80 frame rails, or modify your 81-87 rails. The difference in shape won't allow the bumpers to swap with out some frame mods.

Yeah I know the older ones are rounded and the newer are kinda diagonal. Just was hoping to get some step by step or a guide from someone that has done this. Can I just cut the newer style frame so that it is shaped like the old style or is the best way to cut off the rounded style and weld them onto my 87 frame?

Re: 73-80 bumpers on 81-87 frame?
Back when i was 15 I got an 85 junkyard bumper to fit my 79. Not sure if it was supposed to work but i used to brackets that i got with the newer bumper because my old brackets wouldnt fit.

Well I am trying to do the opposite of that but I do have my old front brackets and bumper so maybe I will play around with that.

I am wanting to do the same thing, put a 73-80 bumper on an 86 frame. I have the correct bumper brackets, but I have not found a suitable bumper yet.

Re: 73-80 bumpers on 81-87 frame?
Is that all it takes? Just the old bumper brackets for the newer frame? I have took the bumper and brackets right off my 79 frame so should it bolt on to the newer style frame then?

I did not mean to imply that. I don't have a bumper to try it. But I know that to go the other way you only need to trim the top part of the frame a bit.
