lookin for 4-wheel discs.....

so as always the options are buying a brand new kit from a company, or im wondering what options are available for shopping in the bone yard. pull it off a truck with discs and bring them home for my 69!

anyone done this? which trucks can you pull the hardware off of? obviously ill be going with new discs and pads once on my 69, but im just really looking for all the mouting hardware and calipers.

Front discs: Look for 71-up 1/2 ton trucks for an easy disc swap.

Rears can use Cadilac stuff but that's not the easiest to find in the wrecking yards. It's easier to purchase aftermarket truck 10/12-bolt specific brackets from various board members & then purchase the requisite parts.

Each manufacturer designs/build their brackets to be used w/specific models. One design uses 94-96 SS-Impala rear discs; another uses LS-1 f-body stuff, while another possiblity uses stock front GM calipers w/no emergency brake.

You'll need to search the forums for pricing & availability on each type. Larger 13" or better is going to require some sort of kit as there are no direct 'swap' disc candidates.

For the rear: I have some 94-96 caprice brake calipers/brackets/rotors (5x5 rotors) for sale for $120. It took me quite awhile to find these at the salvage yard.

I ended up using LT1 camaro calipers on my 68. The camaro calipers have the emergency brake built in.

I got brackets from "glock35ipsc" (member on forum). He makes brackets for both the LT1camaro calipers and the impala calipers.


For the front: I haven't finished this yet, but I got a set of CPP modular drop spindles. I also have a set of LS1 camaro front calipers. I'm going to make a custom bracket to mount the calipers. I tried the Howe Racing dual piston aluminum calipers on ECE drop spindles, but I didn't like the way the caliper moved around due to the lack of rubber bushings. I believe CPP also make a dual piston aluminum caliper that is a bolt in deal for our trucks.

excellent thanks guys! ill definitly put some research into those options. with the engine build i have planned i just want to make sure im going to have some serious stopping power. so im curious now with how big a rotor ill go for, and how many piston caliper to grab. the engine is going to be a supercharged ls motor hoping to get a solid 500rwhp out of it, if not more!

so im off to the local graveyards tomorow to look for my brake hardware, just curious if anyone else has something to add for me to look for?

**actually anything that i can strip off old vehicles to enhance mine please fill me in on haha, looking for suspension components mostly, every suggestion appreciated!!

if found, what caddilac parts can i use for the disc conversion? what models/years?
