what year sway bars?
I have been searching, but I can't findwhat year sway bars will fit on a 69 c10. I know the bigger diameter the better but 73 to what will bolt on? I am heading to the local pick and pull tomorrow. Thanks for your help!

73-87 pickup, 73-91 Burb. C-10 is 1" and C-20-30 is 1-1\8"

I found one at a wreckers from an 80's Camper Special 3/4 Ton truck and it is the big ( 1 1/8" ) one. I had it powdercoated black ,bought the polyurethane hangers for lowered trucks from ECE. I think I have around 100.00 tied up in the sway bar and it is in my opinion the best bang for the buck thing you can do to your truck. I could feel a huge difference in the handling of the truck within 50 feet after I installed it.

Went to the pick and pull this morning and scored a front bar off of a 73 c20 HD camper special. 10 bucks with the brackets. Going to order some new bushings and get it installed. They didn't have any 67-72's but they did have a 60-66 with a straight 6 that still had quite q few parts on it.

by the 80's, the standard bar was a 1-1/8 and the camper specials and 1 ton 2wd's got a 1-1/4 bar that is a bolt on upgrade. i was tempted to do that on my dad's 87 burb 2wd but the truck is rusty and will be going off the road soon. i know the design is very similar, but not sure if the 2 different generations can swap sway bars. the 73-87 era duallies have a beefy rear bar too, but you'd have to use the spring shackle hardware (basically swap the whole rear) on your truck to mount it. be cool on a 3/4 ton pickup or burb, though! i looked under a late model GM truck and it had a 1-1/2 front bar and 1-1/4 rear bar. within reason, the bigger the better it seems!
jim carter truck parts carries a stock style 1-1/4 front sway for the 67-72 trucks. it is about $200. i bought a 1-1/4 CPP sway bar that uses end links instead of the factory clamps at the ends. it is a completely bolt in job (other than removing two rivets to attach the frame brackets). the bar was powder coated and the brackets and much of the hardware is cad plated. i got the complimentary 1-1/8" rear bar but with just the big front bar my 72 burb 3/4 ton goes around corners rather than wanting to go off them. there is some under steer but the rear bar will fix that. the CPP bars are much cheaper than most other vendors. LMC's 1-1/8" front bar is considerly more costly, yet smaller. |

I got both of my 1 1/4 sway bars off of 73-86 tow trucks. Brackets & all. I picked up the Moog bushings I discovered on this post:

big sway bars make all the difference in the world. i put lesabre t type sway bars on my 89 lesabre limited (1-1/16 to 1-1/4 front, 1/2 to 3/4 rear). it still rode smooth like an old man's car should, but it went around corners almost as well as a sport sedan. i made a lot of factory based mods to that car thanks to my research and i pulled all my mods before junking the car. but now i have my 72 burb 3/4 ton to fill the role of tow vehicle!
keep up the good work ladies and gentlemen....junkyard engineering is definitely the stealth/economical way to go! |
