56 chevy truck with mopar ifs

Hello, I have a 56 chevy truck nd woulod like to keep the frame in tack by using an ifs. I'm not real crazy about the m11 units but did see something on line about some mopar units that would fit specifically something 84 and up because the torsion bars are integrated into the clip. I'm trying to do the cheapest thing possible so I would like to use a junkyard setup if possible. can anybody give me some info or refer me to an article or something..............tks ........Troy

BD is right. I believe the Mopar stuff needs a new cross member to adapt the suspension to the frame.

A friend just dumped the stock frame with a Plymouth Volare suspension that was under his AD truck. To get it low the steer geometry has to be altered so much it is REALLY susceptible to bump steer. After 6 months of trying to get it right and having the truck dart into the other lane or shoulder and random direction changes while cornering he found another frame that had a camaro clip. Camaro has and will continue to have lots of replacement parts available.

Sounds to me like he doesn't want to cut up his frame. Measure the outside of the frame rails and measure a 73-87 1/2 Chevy/GMC and see how close they are. If it fits that crossmember bolts in no welding.

tks for all the help and Beast you're right I don't want to cut up my frame. I cked the frame on a 80 p/u I could fab and make it work but seems like it would sit pretty high. I do have some clips 72 nova standard steer, 75 nova disk brakes and a 88 Iroc which one would work best and how hard to is it fab up the brakets for the radiator support......tks again Troy

check out tri5 55 biuld you can see his rad. support. The nova should do fine. the 88 is to new, completely different.

tk, on the novas one is front steer and one is rear steer which one do you think will work best. I don't mean to sound so lame but this is my first shot at a pickup, my other car is a 73 vette, just trying to get some good advice ant tp in to you guys experience...........tks .......Troy

use the front steer the rear steer may put the left motor mount at the steering box unless you use the front motor mounts

I think he is talking about a volare clip. You don't need to cut the frame you notch the frame. I done them before their okay. Set back is you have to offset your engine because of the bulky power steering unit and you can't run airbags if you want to go that way someday. You do have some ride height is adjustable due to the torsion bar set up. Done mostly with the ford guys but I've done them on chevy's also. This is a 87 5th Avenue clip I done before I went with my mustang 2. I gave this frame to a friend and his truck is on the road and it rides nice and he loves it. Pretty easy to install but take a little extra time to make it look nice, but the ride is nice and you can have a nice stance. I believe they sell drop spindles for it now which give you even more adjustment.
