Re: New guy from IA
I buy some stuff from there, but not much. A lot of that stuff doesn't hold up to me or my projects.

Re: New guy from IA
I shop @ Harbor freight now & then, some of it is OK but alot is obviously made in taiwan
The Blazer will be my daily driver, I already have a project in the garage ('85 Monte SS) maybe when that is done it will be the Blazer's turn (are project cars ever really done??) My Blazer was restored in 1998 and still looks decent, it's only had about 20K miles put on it since restoration. As far as immediate plans- 700R4 conversion possible fuel injection??? Many minor repairs & upgrades.. I just scored a very nice stock grille (free )- it came with a 'tube grille' that looks OK but I prefer the stock grille. It has a 4" (?) lift that I'm trying to decide if I like or not.... Anyway, as I'm sure you can all relate- there is always something! Thanks again for the compliments! Dustin

Re: New guy from IA
Dustin, I agree with you. They are never done. I also think the stock grill looks better than the square tube one. I used to love the billet grills in these trucks, but once again the stock one has grown on me. What are the plans for the Monte SS?

Re: New guy from IA
I bought the Monte as a 'Basket Case'
I guess you could say that I saved it, the previous owner had big plans to make it a race car. It has 87K origional miles, and NO rust- anywhere. It was a 1 owner car that was a weekend cruiser since new till Jr turned 16, in a matter of a couple months Jr managed to take a show quality car and send it to the salvage auction where the guy I bought it from found it. He found parts to repair the frontend (Jr crashed it too) and tore it all apart- engine too since it has a spun cam bearing. That's how I got it. I plan to do a stock rebuild with some minor upgrades- I love the goodmark 2" cowl hood on these cars, so that & wheels will be the only changes to the stock appearance. I'm replacing the 305 with a mild 400 (300hp)- the goal is for it to look & run like a stocker but not get embarrased at the stoplights by imported family cars with bad exhaust! Here's a pic from the day I brought it home...
