Sectioning my 56
Hello, I have been wanting to section my 56. I saw one that a guy did and the body lines on the cab lined up with the ones on the bed. I really like that look. Here is a truck that was on Ebay and it has some pretty impressive body mods.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT I've been looking for a build thread that someone might have done on here but haven't seen one. I'm mostly interested about how they sectioned the front fender. Anyone have experience in this? Thanks for the help this is an awesome forum for us 47-59ers. Scott |

Re: Sectioning my 56
Do a search of porterbuilts posts I think I saw one in his posts that showed one in bare metal. That might give some ideas.

That is a fascinating build with so many body mods, I would have never guessed they cut it up like that. Those guys are true craftsmen. Thanks for sharing that build.

Re: Sectioning my 56
Where would a guy get the windshield cut? These windshields have to be pretty expensive for just anyone to try and cut it for the chopped top. I would want someone who has experience doing this to cut it. I wonder how much it would cost to have it cut? I think I could handle most of these body mods, just don't know about the windshield.

Re: Sectioning my 56
Looked to me like the section was above (roof) and below (cowl) the glass...that should mean all stock glass.
I've heard of people using a sand blaster to cut the glass but I imagine only a seasoned veteran could pull it off properly. |

Re: Sectioning my 56
I don't know, it seems like they went to alot of work for a cab that looks pretty stock. Im all for hard work and I can appreciate all the metal shaping, but Im not a fan of the bed. It reminds me of Santa's sleigh..

Re: Sectioning my 56
In the photo's it shows that all the glass is able to be used in stock form, except the front windshield. The windshield area has been chopped. From what I saw. Still it is very cool to be able to chop it with only having to cut the front glass.

Re: Sectioning my 56
You're right. Man, you could look at those pics for hours and see something new every time.
My father in laws 37 Ford is chopped, channeled, sectioned, and converted from a four door to a two door and nobody can tell the difference except the true old timers. Now he's bored and about to convert it from a tudor to a club coupe by grafting on a new back end. I guess the cutting never ends when the obsession starts... |

Re: Sectioning my 56
The amount of work on that truck is incredible. Most people don't realize that there isn't many flat areas on a 55-59, and that makes sectioning one a daunting challenge. It's like trying to section an egg and still make it look like an egg.
I have been tossing around some ideas for my bed on my '55. I have always felt that the bed is too squarish in relation to the rest of the truck and needs to be "softened" up a little bit. I agree with hotrodrookie about the rear of the bed looking like Santa's sleigh. I want a look that appears 90% stock and 10% custom, using pieces of cars from the same era. Even with my few criticisms, that truck is amazing, and I would love to see it finished. Kudos to whoever did the work. |
