TH 350 shift seal leaking..Tool?

I know there is a tool to remove the shift seal on a th350 without dropping the pan, but I can't find a reasonable one. I have looked locally and on the net. I found one for $42 plus shipping online, but there has to be a cheaper one. Any vendors out there?

its a specialized tool most guys that spin wrenches everyday dont have it. thats probably the cheapest your going to find it. theres also an installer bc its tough to get it back in there without destroying it

Buy one at local parts store, use it, clean it, and return for a refund!

Re: TH 350 shift seal leaking..Tool?

Thanks for the offers, but I finally found it locally for $40 with the installer tool. I decided just to bite the bullet and get the $^%^& thing.

I am pretty sure it is the seal because that is the highest thing on the tranny that has fliud on it. Clean the entire tranny real well and look around the seal. Mine also had fliud on the arm that comes through the bracket on the shift shaft. Since the truck doesnt move yet, I figured there is only one way it could get there

Re: TH 350 shift seal leaking..Tool?

Funny you should ask..

I have a buddy who is a peterbuilt mechanic. I was talking to him about the puller the other day and he said he would do some checking with mechanic buddies. He could not find one either. He called and said his "tool guy" could get it for $40 and I took the deal. I honestly do not know the exact source from where it is coming. He should have it by the end of the week. I will post back with the manufacturer and part number.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I know I have a few leaking seals that could take care of.

Re: TH 350 shift seal leaking..Tool?

For all those interested (or searching this subject months from now) it is a matco tools #9648. Took about 5 minutes. Just knock the threaded end of the remover tool into the seal and give it a couple turns to "bite" into the old seal. Use the bolt provided as a press to pull the old seal out that is now attached to the threaded end of the remover tool. Then use the installer to knock the new seal into place. Nothing to it.

Re: TH 350 shift seal leaking..Tool?

I know on a th400 without the tool you drop the pan unbolt the shifter linkage inside and remove it from case use a pick to get the old seal out and to put the new one find a deep well socket that is close to the same size as seal to tap it in.
