Updated Heater
Has anyone done a heater upgrade to a 66? I'm thinking of going with a 2000 or newer Chevy heater box/fan unit and controls. I just like the dials or butons. I know that I will have to plug and recut the firewall and the dash cluster will need to be molded in. Any Ideas?

What I have discovered with the '60-'66 Chevy/GMC trucks, is a properly maintained and functioning heater/defrost system, is more than adequate to heat/defrost the cab of the truck. Start by replacing the blower motor and squirrel cage, heater resistor/element (in the backside of the underdash plenum box), heater core and gaskets. Also, make sure the gaskets are properly installed and functioning. Also, make sure the door-to-cab seals, vent seals, window run channels & anti-rattle wiskers are in good working order. Properly sealing all firewall openings, as well as, installing a good jute backing and sound-deadener will enhance the heating efficiency of your factory system.

I can find a ton of motors but can't find a squirrel cage. What years will fit the motor and housing? anyone have a photo of the heater resistor/element so I know what I'm looking for? The cab in this truck had been on fire at one point so I have no wires or heater controlls running to the hearer connections other than a universal heater switch that turns on the fan.

Part number HAC-16 on the attached link is a replacement fan for a 1966. Pictures of the resistor are shown next down on the page.

It helps, that I now know what the plug looks like, but I need to know where the other end of the 4 wires go to. The truck had the delux heater and factory air, all thats there now is the inside/outside heater box (Inside has melted a bit, but is usable for now), a universal 2 speed heater dial (conected to the heater motor) and 3 switches/resistors with no wires connected. The fuse box is some after market POS, but the dash works, wiper motor works when it wants to (will check it after getting the heater up to speed.
Thanks to everyone helping on this! I can wire the engine, lights ect, but never did anything to a heater or air.

My stock one works great i just flushed out the heater core replaced the fan on the motor because it was making niose replaced the hoses inside the cab made sure the vent inside was cleaned out and man my heater works great!!!!
Blows real hard too!
