350 bored .040 over Need ideas!
K so about a year ago I bout this 71 chevy c10 and the guy gave me a 350 for free no cracks or anything just wanted to get rid of it. Well now I need to do something with it tired if it just sitting on a stand. What can I do with the engine? It's a 350 40 over the bearings I believe have been taken out to 10 over and everything else is stock. Oh btw it's a 2 bolt main. I really just want to put it in my 71 and I want to get as much out of it as I can. I'd prefer not to use nos. And I am on a small budget (married) but either way I will get the parts I need one by one. Thanks for all the help guys if you need more info just tell me I'm at work right now but when I get home I'll look at the head numbers. The block is 3970014. Everything else will have to wait for tonight.

If the bore is fine I would use it, the engine in my truck is 040 over, The bore was perfect so it got a hone and re ring, if you have to bore it, I would consider another block

x2, I've heard if you go .060 over then they run hot. If the bore is good then get a rebuild kit from summit or wherever and throw a cam, intake, and 650 cfm carb on it. Check out the heads to see if they are a decent casting, if they are get them rebuilt. The guy who built mine did all this and charged me $900. He guessed it is putting out about 300 HP. Too bad when it was sitting it got water in it and I had to rebuild it again!
