'66 Front Suspension Update

I have a 66 C10 short step that I am going to change to disc brakes from a 71 Suburban. I am wondering if the whole front suspension is a better choice in place of the stock 66 or do I just need to change the spindles? Later I am going to lower the front with springs and if needed drop spindles, but I am looking for a good ride and more whoa in the mean time. I have the complete Suburban frame to use parts from.

I prefer to change the complete suspension, crossmember and all. Of course whether your engine is in place or not will be a factor on the difficulty level. If your engine is in, then you could just change everything but the crossmember. In that case I would recommend changing to the later larger diameter lower control arm U-bolts. The early smaller diameter ones can break.....ask me how I know......

Sure you can change the whole crossmember with the engine it. Just lift it and put a piece of 2x4 across the frame to hold the front of the engine up. Just like we did on Gregs truck..

I did mine the same way with the engine in place. Instead of a 2x4 I used two chunks of the donor truck frame rails, bolted to the old front motor mount holes and resting on top of the frame.

I did a swap from a 72 c20, into my 63, same basic frame as yours, total bolt in complete crossmember, then upgraded to a 73 powersteering box with a kit from Capt fab.
