they can ship out same day most of the time and they have direct bolt in units that anybody can put in.

The Sure-Fit for the 60-66 trucks are for Chevrolet only as the GMC dash is different. I put a GEN II Compac in my 65 Chevy - it's a little more work/fabrication but in my opinion, it's worth it to get an all electric operated evaporator vs a vacuum system.

I have Vintage Air, and I believe mine is all electric. Make sure you upgrade your Alt. I have a 155 amp alt and with the stuff I am running (not just the air) i could prob use a 200. Just switching from Med fan air to Hi air it drops my charging .7 at idle and about .3 running.

I have to say that I am not sure if mine was specifically for my truck, so my comments may be off...

things that I would like to see diff:

I would like two seperate outlets for the defroster rather than having to use a Y connector. The air movement for the defroster is a bit weak IMO (see comments below).

Also, It seems the controls are a bit cheesy. I already broke a selecter knob almost immediately and had to replace the entire head unit. Luckily they are only like $40.00 and luckily SoCal parts had one in stock (maybe that's why they are only $40). I barely touch them now to change the settings in fear of breaking another knob. I like the head unit from Dakota Digital but the price is almost as much as my entire gauge package was from them.

Last, I would like to see a bit more air movement on high, as I only have three vents for the a/c and if I didn't have a single cab, it would be hurtin. I haven't been through a summer yet, so I can't tell if it's gonna hold up at 110. I have only had it going when it's been 80.

With this being said, I am not sure any aftermarket a/c system is going to be great, but I haven't tried any other. For the price they should be.

DaddyMac - Just read your post and was confused about something - you have a Gen II Compac - it has two defroster outlets not one so you shouldn't need to Y the defrost duct hose. The Compac should have more than enough air flow - last summer in San Antonio we had 65+ days over 100 with high humidity and I ran mine on medium fan speed 90% of the time and was more than comfortable and the wife was too cold every-time she rode in it.

Make sure your duct hose is pulled as tight as possible to aid in air flow, also the rectangle vents are more restrictive than the round ones - I normally recommend a round vent in the corners and the rectangle in the middle. Also check the blower motor and that you have 3 distinctive speeds.

You should see 35-40 degree vent temp out of the vents - so if you insulated your cab well, you should have no problem cooling your truck in Vegas.

Thanks Mark... I will pull it down and take a look this weekend if I have time. It may simply be blocked. I will double check. I will check the temp at the vents as well and I do have three speeds.

I have an old 'knee freezer' in my 'burb and it wouldn't come close to keeping up with summer down here. When I re-do it I will add a second blower in the rear area.

My first question would be how are you using the Sub? Are you going to have passengers all the way in the rear or just the front half of the truck?

Without knowing the answer to the above question - I would recommend doing more of a Custom system rather than the Sure-Fit. I would look @ the Gen IV Magnum evaporator - this is our highest output system designed for large sedans and wagons plus it has the latest electronics to operate the doors and control the temp so it operates like a late model OEM system. We can use some of the items from the SFK to aid in install such as the defrost duct adapters, condenser kit, firewall block-off, etc.

I think the Gen IV Magnum by itself, will work fine as long as you have the truck well insulated. You can always add a rear evaporator later if needed - it may be a little more hassle but if one evaporator is sufficient, it would be a lot cheaper.

Coolair, I have been talking to a local shop that is suppose to order the ac unit for my 62, but have been having problems with them getting back to me, and that pisses me off, treating a potential buyer like this is unacaptable. So I will get a quote from you.
I have a 62 chevy with a 350 with a newer style serpeinteeen belt set up out of a 93 chevy truck. I was told by these guys that I would need an adapter for the ac that will come in the kit, also that I would not be able to get the electronic control head unit, is this true? If I have time today I would like to talk to you directly if this is possible give me your # so we can talk.

I took pic's of the it after the removal of the old heater system, and will post them when I get a chance. I was wondering if there is a market for the old heater system? I'm not trying to sell on here, just wondering if it is worth keeping or trying to sell on ebay. I wont throw in the scrap pile, because as sure as i get rid of it, someone or my self will need it, that's usually the way it works
